Have been researching my husband's family, mine for about 39 years. We are totally convinced that his 2nd grt grandfather was a rascal, who burned court houses on his way out of town! His family came out of NC into Sevier, then to Cocke, and back to Sevier. Then his direct great went back across the mountains to Madison Co., NC - formed from Buncombe Co. - another burned Court House! Then there is the saga of myd/i/l! We found the marriage envelope for her ancestor in Floyd Co., KY, dated 1814, with Anderson Cunningham and the bondsman's name clearly written on it! Unfortunately, someone had decided to liberate the blame bond and license, they moved to Washington Co., IN, where he deserted her ca 1825, ran off with another woman, she filed for divorce in about 1829 - 5 kids, and died not long after. Found an obit that we think is hers - reads, "Mrs. Cunningham died ......" Still don't know what Mary's last name was! The Sweetwater Valley caught the brunt of the Civil War from Knoxville on down to Chattanooga. I know how difficult that is to research!

It is frustrating at times because not only do we not have records for Monroe Co., there was a loss of records in Bradley Co. too which is where my lines headed. I have corresponded a little bit with Robert Wilson descendants that have searched in Blount Co., TN. Their Robert Wilson died after 1830 though and the widow, Nancy Wilson b 1777 in VA was not his wife. There might be more than one Robert Wilson though. Still I cannot find which Wilson she was married to. I do suspect that the Wilson and the Carters from my line were in Greene & Blount Co prior to Monroe since my Jacob and Margaret Elizabeth Neiman/Newman Thomas were also from Blount Co. They could have all settled in Monroe about the same time. Then some went into Bradley. I believe Levi Carter's sons Jacob and Jesse D. are listed as Union soldiers from the 9th District in Bradley Co. And also a George, John and R.D. Wilson that could be related to my Nancy Wilson sre also listed as serving. I can hopefully find more detail on them from Civil War Records. Finding Nancy Wilson's children one by one and finding who they married should help. I did see the deed information on-line for Monroe Co and of course even if not my direct line it still helps to rule in or out who might be connected. Thanks so much again for the information. I have a small, multisubject book, compled by Reba Bayless Broyes back in 1969, which covers 1820 - 1870, but not all records that survived. There is one specific entry about "a" Levi CARTER, Deed Book O, p. 516 - 8 Apr 1850, Levi CARTER, heir of Jesse CARTER, dec'd, late of McMinn Co., to John CARTER. There IS an older Jesse CARTER listed, p. 82, 1830 Monroe - age 50-60. Also several surnames nearby that I have found to be from Blount Co. Using your list of names, and noting that you have a Robert, age 15, opens the door to the possibility that Margaret may will have been the d/o Robert WILSON, and we find one in Blount Co. 1830 as follows: 1 male 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 40-50/, 1 female 40-50. A few houses away is a John and wife, both 40-50, no children. If Levi was b. ca 1805, he most probably waited until age 21, or ca 1826, to marry, so he did not need parental permission to marry, own properties, etc. I believe I would post to Blount and see if someone knows of this family. There is no marriage recorded in Blount Co. for this couple in Sistler's book on marriages., so this would be a long shot approach. There are a couple of Margaret WILSON entries, but they seem to be much to late to be yours. One is dated 17 Sept 1845, Deed Book O., p. 150, a Chancery Decree: John Henderson VS William P.H. McDERMOTT, Thomas Henderson, Margaret R. WILSON, widow of John T. WILSON, dec'd, and John, Alexander M., Penelope J., Margaret C.M., Thomas H., Nancy E., Sarah L., and Mary E.E. WILSON, heirs of John T. WILSON, dec'd. Don't know if this is of any aid, but .......

They migrated to Monroe County from North Carolina in the early 1800's? I am researching the Woods family of Morgan County. Allen Woods(b1833) had a father named Zebedee (b.abt 1795). I have little information on Zebedee but others in the family think his father was also named Zebedee or Zebulon. I hope to hear from you soon.

BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rex Moses has prepared an index of McMinn County Marriages 1833 - 1934. With his permission Kathy Stewart is now available to do look-ups in these marriages via www.rootsweb.com/~tnmcmin2 Kathy may need a bit of time to get organized in doing the lookups so please be patient. WE are also working to get this index online. Also, please be aware that this list has some time frames (and people) missing. We thought in more important to get what we had made available to you researchers. So don't be disappointed if you don't find who you're looking for. Joyce Gaston Reece
