Janet, Our Thomas Day Pierce in the 1880 Benton Co, AR Census says he was 42 and he was born in NC. But on the Meigs Co. census I'm looking at it claims birth in TN. All depends on who is giving the data. Thomas's wife Phebe Edwards was born in NC and her parents. Someone claimed the same of Thomas in 1880. Possible Phebe didn't know for sure, as they had only been married a year or so. Thomas and Phebe went on to have 6 children. Thomas lost a leg in the Civil War and became a Baptist Preacher. New data leads me Meigs Co. TN where he may have married before to a Lucy Miller, before Phebe Edwards in Arkansas and before fighting in the Civil War for Confederate TN. There is a contesting widow named Lucy listed on his CW Pension file along with his widow Phebe. Pearce in the census in 1850 Meigs Co. TN. I have notice in several other Pearce/Pierce lines the name has interchanged spelling of the name in different census.
