    1. Re: [{Meigs Co., TN}] Re: Allen Perry
    2. I'm a little mixed up on the Allens. Hope I don't mess this up. "My" Allen--really my husband's gggrandfather--I'll call him Allen1, was born in 1824 in NC and died in 1882 in Meigs Co TN. He married Matilda McKeehan in 1842 and was still married to her when he died. She died in 1899. They are buried in the Perry Cemetery in Meigs County. Allen1 had a brother named Noah Perry, born 1828 in McMinn Co TN. He married Jane Mavity in 1847. Noah and Jane had six children: Susannah, b 1847; Andrew Jackson, b 1849; Allen, b 1853; James F b 1859; Sarah b 1864; Asa b 1871. Noah died in 1874 from sickness he contracted during the Civil War, according to his wife Jane's pension application. Noah's son Allen, the third child of Noah and Jane, I'll call him Allen 2, was married to Mary Caywood (Kaywood?) in 1870. He later married Mahala Maynar in 1878. I got that little bit of information from the censuses and Meigs Co marriage records, but I don't have any other information about Allen2, and haven't heard anything from any of his descendants. A long time ago, I noticed there was an Ancestry.com entry that got the two Allens all mixed up. I contacted the fellow who had entered it, and he said he knew he'd got it wrong, but he didn't know how to correct it. I hope he figured it out, and got it corrected, but if he didn't, the false information is still out there floating around, I'm afraid. If you got some of your info from this part of Ancestry.com, you might want to check the birth dates again. Some of Noah's other descendants have done quite a lot of research on the family. I'd suggest you might like to contact Flora Newby. I don't have her addy now, but she is the manager of the Perry mailing list. Maybe I can send your name on the list and see if she can contact you. I checked to see if there is a genealogy forum for either Caywood or Kaywood, and found there is one for each of them! http://genforum.genealogy.com/kaywood/ doesn't have very much on it, but http://genforum.genealogy.com/caywood/ seemed to have several people sharing information. Hope this helps. Joy Perry

This Allen was probably a namesake of his uncle. He was born in 1853, so he was married at 17. He married again, to Mahala Maynar in 1878, so something must have happened to Mary. We don't have anything more on Mary than just her name. However, we do have a James Caywood who married one of Allen1's daughters, Maranda Perry. Again, we don't have any further information on him, but it looks likely that they lived neighbors in Meigs County. Sorry we don't have more on Mary. Good luck in your search. Joy Perry

    1. [{Meigs Co., TN}] New McMinn ALHN site update
    2. I just wanted to let everyone know how the McMinn County ALHN Site was doing. It's been an amazing month to say the least. As of 8am we've had over 960 visitors to our index page. We've added lots of new material to the site including a search engine. Every day seems to bring more ideas and information. In the last few days I've put up several links including the 1820 pension database link to Lineages.com, the WWII honors list, and several other major spots. We've also added more maps (on their own page), Native American Links and African American links, a reunion list, a list of Church/Cemetery Decoration Days, recent deaths from local newspapers, and started the cemetery index online and so much more. We're always looking for more links and information to add to this site. If you've got a page that you'd like linked to us let us know. Even if you don't have a page but do have information to be put on let us know. We'll put it on and give you the credit you deserve. I'm looking for information on the Church/Cemetery Decoration/Dinner on the grounds days. There are so many churches that I don't have that information for. Let me know so I can add it to the page. Also let me know if I've missed any churches. It's hard to keep track of them and I don't want to miss any. I'm also looking for someone to send me the names from their local paper in the South East Tennessee Area. I'm trying to put the name, age, town (plus place of death if different) and paper name. I'm covering Athens but need someone for Bradley County, Polk County, Loudon County, Monroe County, Roane County and any other paper that would have the info we need. You can send it in by the week or by the day. Just let me know if you would like to help with this project. It'll be an ongoing project but if we work together it won't be so hard. Also the site will accept obits with a McMinn/Southeast Tennessee connection. There are so many connections between our counties it would really be hard to stop at just information about McMinn. Thanks to everyone who is making this site such a success. Come an Visit-- You are always welcome in McMin County Our TEnnessee Home!
