We have been trying to figure out if my GGGrandfather Thomas K. Edgmond that lived in Miller County,Mo. until he died was from Tenn. or Kentucky. Some census on him say Tenn. and other years say Kentucky. Would really be greatful if anyone knows of this family. He was born in 1818 and died in 1875. His first wife was Lucinda Allen and his second wife was Louisa Freeman. Thanks for any help you can give me. We have been trying to figure this out for over 20 years.

Directions in the books Meigs Cemetery Book - 2 miles from Hiway 58 on old Ten Mile Rd. from the North intersection coming from Kingston. Cemetery is in poor condition with about 40 unmarked grave sites, 10 marked. Directions were stated that the cemetery was .02 mile off the left side of the road. There is also a WOOLSEY Cemetery a bit closer to the Kingston side, but not far. My husband could not locate either one, and talked to a couple who have lived in an older home they are renovating for over a year, and also a Mr. MASSEY, whose mother lives near the quarry on the Kingston side in an older home also. He owns much land out there, evidently lives in Knoxville now, but happened to have a group of Boy Scouts from there camping for the weekend on his land. Neither party were at all familiar with these sites. The only one I remember from a trek out to find the Barton McPHERSON properties some two or t! hree years ago, was a gated rd. with a "No Trespassing "sign, giving a name to call. The name is no longer there either. J. WAS told that there are a couple of cemeteries in that same area, but on the opposite side of the rd. and back near wooded area, that are not marked on the map. The person for whom I am trying to find and take picture of g. grandmother's grave, came up about a year ago, with his father and his son - had no luck locating either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The specific stone is that of Lydia MOON JONES, 1809 - 1850, which has a beautiful verse enscribed on it. I hope to head out that way again in a week or so. Figure most of the snakes have, or will, be in a hole somewhere - one less worry - especially since the description of the cemetery was indicating lack of care.

Will check with our local Archives and see if the Meigs Co. Heritage book has anything about these families - long shot! One other resource - I have the TN Centennial books that list both Confederate and Union forces, and a second volume which gives histories of various battalions. Many of the MADDEN surname, but no James, in the Union Army. Under the CAWOOD spelling, there are: Andrew J., F.M., J.J., Thomas, Pvt, 1st K Co., 3rd (Lillard's) Infantry; CAWOOD: Thomas Pvt. E. Co., 63rd Inf. - Confederate Forces. The one listed in 3rd Infantry sounds promising, as this bunch formed in Knoxville, TN, 29 May 1861. Like so many units on both sides, when two or more were decimated by deaths from wounds or disease, they were pulled together under a different title. Co. K. was pulled from what had been Co. H., which was basically comprised of men from Monroe Co. There was also a Co. I,! also known as Lillard's, and they grouped in Meigs. If interested in seeing what they have on hand, send request for info to the TN State Library and Archives, 403 Seventh Ave. North, Nashville, TN 37243-0312. Enclose either money order or check for $5.00. Not much of the Confederate records survived, but the pay chits give some idea of where the people were at any given time. Though considered traitors, and not granted pensions immediately following the war, some were later awarded pensions by either the State or the US Government. Long list of FORD's to sort through, and time is limited. I would also be tempted to check with AR State Libray & Archives to see if James D. MADDEN,(MADEN) might have served from there. It might explain why Sarah Ann was back living with her father in 1880, though it is unusual to see one with children revert to maiden name - which could also be an error on the enumerator's part. James could have died in the CW, and Sarah Ann decided to head back to Meigs Co. Will keep an eye out for the surnames you are researching. On the FORD family, one item of possibly "slim" interest was written in their Centennial history. It records the Pedigree Chart of one John FORD, came from VA to Grassy Cove in 1801, m. Elizabeth ENGLAND. Cumberland was not formed until 1855 from portions of Bledsoe, Fentress, Morgan, Putnam, RHEA, and White Co.'s. There could well be a connection lurking here, if this FORD was living in that part removed from Rhea Co. NEAR the portion removed to form Meigs. I hope this hasn't confused you!!!!!

I hope there is some history there about the Caywood line even maybe Thomas life. Like Civil War or any other War's. Can you help me here? It seems like the family of the Caywood didn't know about Thomas or he was the oldest and was married and gone before the census's took place. Also don't know if this is true but might help, that my grandmother mention her grandmother Margaret was 1/2 Blood Cherokee. But don't know which side Ford or Caywood. Margaret wouldn't sign the Rolls for she was a proud woman and work for what she believe in. But maybe her sister or parents was in the Rolls. (This might help us know about them). Under the spelling CAWOOD, There is a Thomas who married Ruth FORD, 25 Dec 1841 in Meigs Co. (Could she have been Charlotte Ruth or Ruth Charlotte?) It then appears that he possibly married her sister or s/i/l, Sarah FORD, 5 Jan 1854, also in Meigs Co.The Mary FORD listed with them in 1850 could well be the mother of the FORD girls.A Benjamin FORD m. Polly FORD, 3 September 1824 in Washington Co., TN. (Several FORD marriages in that area.) The elderly SATTERFIELD woman could well be a grandmother or grand aunt. Most of the early marriages that were extant and are in Sistler's books place the SATTERFIELD name primarily in Grainger Co., with one or two scattered in other NE TN counties.None of the CAWOOD surname is listed in Meigs Co. in 1830, as Meigs was not formed until 1836 from Rhea Co. There are 2 Edmund's in Rhea, & 2 Stephens. Thomas should have been about 12 in that Census, and they all lived in a neat little row. Step[he 1 was 20-30, Edmund 1 was 30-40 and had a ! male between 10-15; Then Stephen 30-40 and folowed by a Sr. EDMUND who was 70-80 years of age. I don't know that this has been of aid. I have little on Meigs Co. in my private library other than the full 1850 State Census as done by Sistler, the 1830, and the "Early E. TN Marriages, Brides and Grooms."

Dear List Members, I finally received our Thomas Day Pierce Civil War information. All 128 pages. I searched off and on for quite awhile for his Confederate Civil War info. He was settled in Bentonville Arkasas in 1880. I had tried to find a way to collect his information from the Arkansas State Archives. I had a pension number and certificate from Ancestry, but the researcher I contacted could not find him in the index. After she communicated to another professional researcher, the answer was UNION UNION UNION. Confederate soldiers did not receive pensions until very late and would not be listed with Ancestry Civil War Pension Certificates. Thomas married 4 times. *1st to a Mary Hauser *2nd to a Nancy Bandy *3rd in 1866 to a widow Lucy Brown Miller with a child from a deceased soldier James Miller (married by Allen Dethrage). *4th to Phebe Edwards in McDonald Co. MO, living in Bentonville Arkansas 1870, marriage witnessed by a Jones and James N. Boyd. (their daughter Katie, is our line.) My question for this list is that it is stated that Nancy Bandy had two children before she died in child birth. Were these Thomas's children? Lucy and Phebe were contesting widows to his pension claim. I also found where Thomas's parents Stephen and Elizabeth Pierce went after they left Meigs Co. They went to Goode Twp, Franklin Co IL. Thomas also went on to MO and KS before settling in Arkansas. Both he and Phebe are buried in OK. Sincerely, Barbara Long
