He was born in 1849 in Tennessee. He is reported to have had brothers named Peter & Bill according to my aunt (who is deceased). I have located a Peter Whitt in McNairy County who served in the 6th Tennessee Cavalry (Union) during the Civil War. However, there were no pension records available for him from the archives. A Samuel R. Whitt also served in the same unit, and pension records were available for him, but gave me no clues. Peter Whitt is listed in McNairy County in the 1870 census, but not after that. My great-grandfather's mothers maiden name was supposedly Clayton (per same aunt). There were Clayton's in McNairy at that time & there are a few Clayton's buried at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Finger where most of my family is buried. My guess is that if this Peter Whitt is my great-grandfather's brother, that the Whitts I am looking for should be on the 1860 McNairy County census (as the 6th Tennessee volunteer cavalry is a McNairy County Unit). Would it be possible to look this up for me? I will also run this by you to see if you have any ideas.....My grandfather, William Harrison Whitt was born in Arkansas in 1889. There is no 1890 census. Grrrr..... I am trying to find out who his mother was. She was reportedly one "Ola Whitley". There were Whitleys in McNairy County, in fact my 2nd great uncle married a Whitley. The 1891 Enumeration of Voters for McNairy County lists my gr. grandfather, Andrew Carroll Whitt back in McNairy County at that time. If he was in Arkansas, he didn't stay long. I also know that my grandfather was raised in Oklahoma, but not by his father. His mother died when he was small. My grandfather came back to McNairy County when he was 16 years old. By 1910 he was married to my grandmother, Zelphia Roberta McIntyre. The only thing I can come up with is checking the 1900 Oklahoma census for William Harrison Whitt. He was obviously living in someone elses household. Does this sound feasible? It still does not tell me who his mother is, but I might get clues from who he was living with. Any ideas? A million thanks for your time!!! Tanya Autry Becker --------------207DF2C0777BE76E147D70FD--
