I'll bet that he was one of those whom they called Doctor or some other name on that census but I can't positively identify him. 1850 Census McNairy Co., TN. District 7, household 116 Elijah Hill/55/M/W/TN/farmer/500 Rebecca/50/F/W/TN James/25/M/W/TN/laborer Daniel/23/M/W/TN/laborer Samuel/21/M/W/TN/laborer Pleasant/18/M/W/TN/laborer Andrew/16/M/W/TN/laborer Gideon/14/M/W/TN Rufus/12/M/W/TN Doctor/10/M/W/TN Catherine/5/F/W/TN There's another possibility also, I suppose. Perhaps one of the sons above had married and separated and your Riley is with his mother and the surname never got recorded. So far I haven't been able to positively identify him in 1850. -- Johnita P. Malone jmalone@ix.netcom.com
