My gr-gr grandparents lived in McNairy after their marriage in Madison Co. in 1843. They were Volentine McMELLON (b: Abt. 1813 in TN) and Elizabeth DOWNING (b: Abt. 1823 in TN) Their children were William Franklin (mine, b: Nov 30, 1843 in Madison Co, TN), Sarah (b: Abt. 1846), and Ellen (b: Abt. 1849). One of our elder cousins recalls hearing that William got on his horse and rode to Texas when both parents and maybe both sisters died in a plague. He was in the Texas cavalry by 1862, so I imagine it was around 1860. Does anyone know anything about the McMILLANs or DOWNINGs, or about a plague in McNairy? Jim
