I've found this to be very frustrating, but I have been able to verify marriages based on deed records, court records and guardian bonds there in McNairy county. In one instance, I found a deed record dated 1858 that had embedded in the text the transcript from a chancery court decision that cited wife and children and confirmed husband's death in 1857. Those chancery court records no longer exist by themselves, but this one survived because it was transcribed into the deed record.
