    1. Re: [TNMCNAIR-L] Samuel Houston & Cherokees
    2. Hi, I had responded with just a tidbit of information on Samuel Houston. In a notebook on the Daniel Hill & Eleanor Nodding line there was an entry: "Daniel Hill and his wife Eleanor are both buried in Rose Hill Eemetery about 3 miles from Bethel Springs, McNairy County, Tennessee. On his tomb is, "Daniel Hill born 1750, died 1846 - Soldier of 1775". On Eleanor's tomb is, "Ellen, wife of Daniel Hill, Died 1830, about 80 years of age." They moved from Jefferson County to McNairy County, Tennessee in 1828 and settled 3 miles from Purdy on Cypress Creek. With them went their families, 2 sons-in-law: Thomas Griffin and Isiah Coffman. Where they lived was known as the 'Hill Settlement', one of the largest at that time in the county. Living there were also Old Ben Walker, Whartons, Harwells, Joplins, Kincaids, McAlfrines, Sweats, Magill, Carters, Surratts, Adams, Barnes, Bells, Brooks, Crumps, Devautts, Dennys, Murrays, Wilson, William Beatty, Samuel Houston and the Rankin families. I have no knowledge that this was "the Samuel Houston," but there was a man by that name in McNairy Co. sometime after 1828. Ivalon Hill Fox Ivalonf@aol.com
