William Littlefield II (1756-1836) was a Revolutionary War veteran, and his grave has recently been located in Reese City, Alabama. The Sons of the American Revolution have ordered a government stone to mark his grave, and a special ceremony will be held April 24th at Reese City, AL at 2:00 p.m. William Littlefield II's youngest son, Luther Rice Littlefield, was an early pioneer of McNairy County, TN and left lots of descendants. If you are a descendant and are interested in this event, please read Ann Littlefield Coleman's note below. Their son, William II, born May 16, 1756, later went on to fight in the Revolutionary War from SC regiments. William II died Oct. 15, 1836 in Reese City, Alabama and is buried at the top of the hill of the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Don't be confused, he was not a member there but rather is listed on the membership rolls of the Old Harmony Baptist Church. His death most likely occurred when he was visiting his daughter, Mary Littlefield Burgess who lived across the road from this church. His grave is at the top of the hill and was the first person to be buried at this cemetery. In 1836 the church building was at the top of the hill. The Church building is now at the bottom of the hill next to the road on US 11. The Sons of Revolution (SAR) have arranged for a Revolutionary War Marker to be placed on this William Littlefield's grave. The ceremony will be Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the cemetery at 2:PM Central Time. Directions to the church and cemetery are as follows: Bethany Baptist Church is located in Reese City, Alabama on US Highway 11. Off of Interstate 59 take the Noccalula Falls-Reese City exit. Turn west and come over one block to US 11. Take a left on US 11, go about ½ mile and the church is on the right. You will see the Bethany Baptist Church sign. (Reese City joins Attalla on the south and Gadsden on the east). Incidentally, the Burgess Cemetery was just someone's thoughts given out a long time ago. There are quite a few members of the Burgess Family in a section of the early burials but this is not the Burgess Cemetery and their graves are later than our William's grave. Jehue Littlefield has at least two children buried close to the top near William's grave. I visited this place with one of the Burgess descendants of that area and he had never heard of any cemetery named Burgess Cemetery. Ann Littlefield Coleman Rcoleman@cinci.rr.com
