He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Girtha Evans Whitley and one brother, Wilburn Wayne Whitley. He is survived by one brother, Preston Whitley of Marston, MO and nieces and nephews including a nephew, Michael Whitley, who cared for him. Services will be 2 p.m. Wed. at the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. A native of Tennessee, Mr. Barber moved to the area 41 years ago. Mr. Barber was an educator in the Cobb County Schools System for 34 years including being the Principal for Skyview Elementary, Floyd Jr. High and opened Tapp Middle School where the Theater was dedicated to him in his honor. He also served as Asst. Principal at McEachern High School. He served in various capacities within the Central Office including Director of Adult and community Education and Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Operations. After retirement, he served as a bailiff in Judge Bob McDuff�s courtroom and served at Principal at Roswell Street Baptist Christian School from 1998 to may 21000. He was a member at the First Baptist church of Powder Springs where he served as deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. He is survived by his wife Dean Barber of Powder Springs, GA, four Sons, Keith Barber of Marietta, GA., Phil Barber of Kennesaw, GSA, Randy Barber of Kennesaw, GA, Steven Barber of Acworth GA, three sister, Deloris Scarborough of Grenada, Miss, Geraldine Barber of Stantonville, and Maylene Barber of Stantonville, on brother, Neal Barber of Jackson, and eight grandchildren.
