Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper, Wed., Feb. 23, 2005 MARY TULL, 91, of Union City, TN, formerly of Bethel Springs, TN, passed away on Feb. 15, 2005, at the Union City Manor Nursing & Rehab Center. She attended the First Assembly of God Church I Union City and was a homemaker. Mrs. Tull was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest P. Moore and Mary Suvella Isbell Moore; her husband, Lee Tull; three sisters, Marceline Miller, Graple Causey, and Annis Maness; and four brothers, Howard, John, Bill, and Quinn Moore. She is survived by one sister, Cleo South of Ypsilanti, MI; four brothers, Warren moore of HAenderson, TN, Tilman Moore of Selmer, TN, and Buel Moore of Ypsilanti, MI. Services were Fri., Feb.18th, at White-Ranson Funeral Home in Union City with Rev. Bob Keich and Rev. Rick Moore officiating. Burial followed at Center Ridge Church Cemetery in Bethel Springs. (TONY) SMITH, 39, of Stantonville, TN, passed away on Feb, 7, 2005 at McNairy Regional Hospital. He was a member of WEST Shiloh Baptist Church and an engineer for Artco Barge Company. Mr. Smith is survived by his parents, George W. and Donna Sue Garrison Smith of Stantonville; one sister, Penney Ashe and husband Richard of Selmer, TN; and one nephew, Aaron Ashe of Selmer. Services were Wed., Feb. 9th, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Tillman officiating. Burial followed in the Stantonville Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of the arrangements. .................. W. T. LEONARD, 57 of Selmer, TN, passed away on Feb. 17, 2005 at his residence. He was a member of Bethel Springs First Baptist Church and owner/operator of 45 Mart. Mr. Leonard was preceded in death by his patents, Robert Bruce, Sr. and Thelma Jewel Hockaday Leonard and one brother, John Robert Leonard. He is survived by seven sisters, Patie McCallister and Lyda Myatt of Noxapater, MS, Elizabeth King and Shirley Mullins of Selmer, Brenda Horton of Bethel Spring, TN and Betty Ward and Deborah Stanfill of Jackson, TN; and one brother, R. B. Leonard Jr. of Selmer. Services were Sat., Feb.19th, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with James Towery officiating. Burial followed in falcon Cemetery in Selmer. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of the arrangements. RUTH PICKLE, 88, of Selmer, TN, passed away on Feb, 17, 2005 at McNairy Regional Hospital. She was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Pickle was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Olen Pickle. She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Griffin of Selmer; five sons, Billy, Bobby, Tommy, Johnny, and Jackie Pickle, all of Selmer; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen gr-grandchildren. Services were Sun., Feb.20th, at 1:30 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with James Smith and Mike Hollaway officiating. Burial followed in the Bethesda Cemetery in Selmer. AMANDA RUTH PATTERSON, 94, of Corinth, MS, passed away on Feb. 11, 2005, at Magnolia Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mattie Herrod Gaines; her husband, Henry Lee Patterson; one son, Fletcher L. Patterson; four sisters, Louvenia, Ammy, Ruthie, and Pearlie Gaines; and six brothers, Alex, Robert, Joseph, Scip, Jake, and Columbus Gaines, Jr. She is survived by four daughters, Violet Wyke and husband Eural of Corinth, MS, Vera Stafford and husband, Lee Morris of Biggersville, MS, Julia Cager of Corinth, MS and Eular Hayes of Corinth, MS; four sons, Henry A. Patterson and wife Helen of Ramer, TN, Eddie Patterson and wife Elizabeth of Tupelo, MS, Gene E. Patterson and wife Sherry of Corinth, MS, and Robert Patterson and wife Ruby of Corinth, MS; one sister, Annie Walker of East St. Louis, IL; forty-six grandchildren, eighty-six gr-grandchildren, and thirty gr-gr-grandchildren. Services were Fri., Feb.18th, at Mason St. Luke M. B. Church with Pastor Frederick C. Patterson officiating. Burial followed in St. Luke M. B. Church Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements, .................. HAVEN GARNER, a long time educator, farmer and community leader died Feb. 19, 2005 at his home near Finger, TN. He retired from the McNairy County School System after 36 years of service as a teacher and principal at Fairview School, Finger Junior High School, McNairy Elementary, and Bethel Springs Elementary. He also served as a McNairy County Commissioner for several years and was a former member of the McNairy County Hospitals Board of Directors. He was a member of the Finger First Baptist Church and was the oldest member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #485. Mr. Garner regularly attended school reunions and was frequently recognized by former students as a person that strongly influenced their life and played a key part in their chosen profession. He was also known for his keen memory, particularly concerning local history and events of days past. Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his parents, Arlis and Letie Garner; his wife, Willie Albert Clayton Garner; a son Douglas Garner; and three grandchildren; Sherrie, Jackie, and Barry Rouse. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Hines of Memphis, TN and Lettie Hines, of Selmer, TN; three sons, Michael and wife Judy of Paris: Phillip and wife Phyllis of Bethel Sprints, TN and Dwight and wife Barbara of Finger. He is also survived by three brothers, and one sister: Will and Warren Garner of Finger and Waldo Garner and Ethel Hurst of Bethel Springs, TN; and 16 grandchildren, and 13 gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were Mon., Feb.21st, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Selmer with Rev. Paul Weaver and Rev. Bobby Bray officiating. Interment was in Lake Hill Memory Garden in Bethel Springs. Pallbearers were Jamie Clayton, Wayne Clayton, Guy Garner, Steve Smith, John Clayton, Jimmy Essary, and Johnny Garner. .................. DON E. PLUNK, 59, passed away on Sat., Feb. 19, 2005. Services were at 11 a.m. Tues., Feb. 22nd at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Selmer with Bro. W. O. Bullman, Bro. Jimmy Caters, and Bro. Clyde Rouse officiating. Interment was in Rocky Knob Cemetery. Mr. Plunk was born on Apr. 3, 1945, the son of the late William Arthur Plunk and Amy Eva Robinson Plunk. He was retired from U.S. Steel in Gary, IN, and was an assistant griever with U.S.W.A. Local 1014. He was presently a school bus driver with the McNairy County School System and had a great relationship and respect from the students who rode his bus. He served on the McNairy County School bus driver safety committee. He was a member of Rocky Knob Church and the Enville Ruritan Club. He was an avid Cubs, Bears, and Titans fan. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Loretta Harris Plunk of Finger, TN; two sons, Ricky (Gina) Plunk of Finger, Marty (Ruthie) Plunk of Lexington, TN; four sisters, Carolyn (John) Latimer of Bull Shoals, AR, Lila (Warren) Pollock and Kathy Plunk, both of Finger, and Karen (Tim) Meeker of Lyons, OH; six grandchildren, Gregory Seth Plunk, Brittany Plunk, Alyssa Plunk, Danielle Plunk, Kassy Plunk, and Kevin Hathcote; mother-in-law Ruth Harris Williams of Adamsville, TN. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lewis Plunk. Family asks that any memorials be made to Rocky Knob Cemetery. .................. EDITH V. ANDERSON. 99, of Mesa, AZ, passed away on Feb. 11, 2005 in Phoenix, AZ. She was retired from Proctor & Gamble. Mrs. Anderson is survived by two sons, John E. (Sarah) and Jerry L. (Kris); eight grandchildren, and thirteen gr-grandchildren, and one gr-gr-grandchild. Services were Thurs., Feb.17th, at Velda Rose United Methodist Church. She was a Baptist and a retired machine operator of Harwood Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Thacker was preceded in death by her parents, Troy & Kellie Strawn Burks; her first husband, Carson D. Lewey; one son, Nathan Lewey; and three brothers, T. W. Burks, E. G. Burks, and Cal Burks. She is survived her husband, Willie D. Thacker; one daughter, Elizabeth Moore of Michie, TN; one son, Clint Carson Lewey of Michie; five step-daughters, Joyce Richardson of Huffman, TX, Anita Mosier and Angela Jackson of Counce, TN, Mary Winters of Portland, OH, and Joy Foster of Michie; one step-son Junior Thacker of Counce, TN; one sister, Jo Ann Sweat of Stantonville; three brothers, Charles Burks and Troy Alton Burks of Michie and Jimmie W. Burks of Manito, IL; three grandchildren, sixteen step-grandchildren, four gr-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. Services were Tues., Feb. 22nd, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with John Howard Hutcherson officiating. Burial followed in Pebble Hill Cemetery in Michie. She was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Carroll and Minnie Mathis Jones; her husband, Homer Edward Sims; one daughter, Ruth Smith; one son, Homer Edward Sims; one sister, Della Houston; and three brothers, Eulus, Arnold, and Robert Jones. She is survived by two daughters, Nellie Hanline of Las Vegas, NE and Mamie Watson of Corinth, MS; three sons, John Sims of Guys, Joe Sims of Eads, TN, and Gerry Sims of Memphis, TN; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one gr-grandchildren, and nineteen gr-gr-grandchildren.
