She was a member of Falcon Baptist Church. Mrs. Hockaday was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cora George Watson; her husband, Ben Hockaday; and one brother, Johnnie Watson. She is survived by one sister, Alean Whitaker; and two brothers, Henry Lee Watson and Floyd Vernon Watson, both of Michie, TN. Services were Sat., Jan. 22nd, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with Malcom George officiating. Burial followed in the Pebble Hill Cemetery in Michie. She was a member of Selmer First United Methodist Church and a retired secretary of Pickwick Electric Cooperative in Selmer. Mr. Weatherford was preceded in death by her parents, Gaston & Flora Woods Grubbs; and two husbands, Hubert Brooks Fortner and James Thomas Weatherford. She is survived by five daughter, Linda King of Union City, TN, Janice Miller of Jackson, TN, Libby Jo Richard of Ramer, TN, Penny Gant of Selmer, and Sunshine Gant of Kossuth, MS; one son, James Fortner of Ramer; one brother, Gerald Grubbs of Picayune, MS; ten grandchildren and eight gr-grandchildren. Services were Thurs., Jan. 27th, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with Mike Pilcher and Brad Franks officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer. She was a nurse. Mrs. King is survived by her parents, Charles McCutchun of Rienzi, MS, and Esther Johnson Hatfield of Bethel Springs; her husband Charles E. King; one daughter, Karrie Strube of Jackson, TN; two sons, Brian Jackson of Selmer, TN and Larry Jackson of Dallas, TX; one step-daughter Lindsey King of Bethel Springs; one step-son Brian King of Medina, TN; one brother, Larry McCutchun of Pocahontas; one step-brother, Paul McCutchun of Rienzi; and twelve grandchildren. Services were Thurs., Jan. 27th, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with Larry Cooksey and Kenny Marcum officiating. Burial followed in the White Oak Cemetery in Ramer. Mrs. Browder was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Angie Naomi Landreth Smith; and three brothers, John Wayne Smith, Thomas Neal Smith, and Dalton Smith. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Browder; one son, James Ray Browder of Selmer; three sisters, Alva Browder of Michie, TN, Janice Cosby of Stantonville, TN, and Betty Palmer of Michie; and one Brother, Billy Harold Smith of Columbus, GA. Services were Mon., Jan. 31st, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Joe Stewart officiating. Burial followed in the Stantonville Cemetery. She was a Methodist and a Psychiatric Aide. Mrs. Waldrop was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Fannie Minton McMahan; her husband, Edgar Waldrop; one son, Herman Waldrop; two sisters, Ellie McCalip and Annie McMahan; Six brother, Buford McMahan, Carl McMahan, Elby McMahan, Elmer McMahan, Otis McMahan, and Thomas McMahan; three grandchildren, and one gr-grandson. She is survived by two sons, Clyde Waldrop of Selmer, and Howard Waldrop of Jackson, TN; one brother, Barney McMahan of Pocahonas; six grandchildren and thirteen gr-grandchildren. Services were Sun., Jan. 30th, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Bro Frank Bell officiating. Burial followed in McCalip’s Chapel Cemetery in Selmer. She was a member of Piney Grove Church of God and previously worked at Brown Shoe Company. Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ruthie Goodrum Vandiver; her husband, Noral Riley; and one brother, Roy Vandiver. She is survived by one sister, Shirley Sikes and husband, Jackie of Henderson; and two brothers, Troy Vandiver and wife, Jewell of Eagleville, TN and William Vandiver and wife, Lorine of Yuma, AZ. Services were Sun., Jan. 30th, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with George Ellenwood and Aaron Moss officiating. Burial followed in the Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in McNairy, TN, and a homemaker. Mrs. Hodge was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Leona Shields Dodd; two husbands, Gorland Tull and Bill Hodge; one son-in-law, Harvie T. Smith; three sisters, seven brothers, one grandson, and one granddaughter, and one gr-granddaughter. She is survived by four daughters, Marlene Smith of Bethel Springs, Sarah Maness and husband, Ravon, of Henderson, Brenda Hill and husband, Kenneth, of Bethel Springs, and Vina Mehr and husband, Vern of Bethel Springs; thirteen grandchildren, thirty gr-grandchildren, and six gr-gr-grandchildren. Services were Tues., Feb. 1st, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Bill McLlwain, Roger Hatch and Preston Siler officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery in McNairy, TN. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of all the arrangements. ………………………… JAMES DEAN BRIGLEY, JR, 62, of Selmer, TN, passed away on Jan. 26, 2005, in Glen, MS. He was a member of Grace Bible Church and a self-employed mechanic. Mr. Brigley leaves behind his mother, Woniece Johnson of Santa Maria, CA; three daughters, Crystal Newcomb of Selmer, Kassey Newcomb of Corinth, MS, and Chantal Brigley of Bethel Springs, TN; two sons, James Brigley III of Malden, MO, and Alex Brigley of Iuka, MS; eight sisters, one brothers, and twelve grandchildren. Services were Sat. Jan. 29th, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, TN, with burial in Crump Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of all the arrangements. ………………………… OPAL NOBLIN FARRIS, 80, a native of Forest, MS, and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Jan. 27, 2005, at Our Lady Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Farris was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian Noblin; her husband, Terry J. Farris; five sisters, Luna Fortner, Nell Rester, Dorothy Tyner, Tillie Guidroz, and Kathryn “Dood” Milstead; two brothers, Dennis Noblin and George Ferrell “Son” Noblin; and a niece, Ann Fortner Guild. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Farris of Baton Rough and several nieces and nephews. Services were Sat., Jan. 29th, at 11 a.m. at the Welsh Funeral Home Chapel in Baton Rouge with Rev. He was an auto mechanic. Mr. Schafer was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilma V. Schafer. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Schafer; two daughters, Amanda Ingle and husband, Jerry of Bethel Springs, TN and Polly Jordan of Selmer, TN; one son, Daymon Schafer and fiancé, Diane Jones, of Finger, TN; one step-son, Chris Chestnut of Jackson, TN; and five granddaughters. Services were Tues., Jan. 25th, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with Frank Harris officiating. Burial followed in Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs.
