In a visit to the NC Archives a few days ago, I found the following death notice in "The People's Press" newspaper of Salem, North Carolina, in the January 13, 1855 issue: "DIED... At the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. J. Burton, near Denmark, Tennessee, on the 10th inst., of Pneumonia, Reuben Dick; formerly a respected citizen of Guilford County." For some reason, the Guilford County papers did not carry this item, after a search of both indexes and microfilm for those. Reuben was born in Guilford, grew up there, and was in Guilford into the 1840's. His widow Lucretia appears in the 1860 census of McNairy County with some of their children, and that is where she died and was buried. I do not know of any marriage between one of Reuben's daughters and a J. Burton, and I'd like to find out if someone has information on that. I'd also like to find out if someone knows where Reuben Dick is buried near Denmark. In addition, I have no clue as to why the notice appeared in a Forsyth County NC newspaper. Can anyone assist with any of these questions? I've tried to contact some of the people with whom I had corresponded about Reuben in past years, and their e-mail addresses are invalid. Thank you for any help you can give!
