    3. Independent Appeal Newspaper Weds., Oct. 20, 1999 GEORGE MARTIN GAGE, 77, died on Wed., Oct. 13, 1999, at his home. He was bricklayer, attended Bethel Springs Presbyterian Church, a member of Bricklayers Union, a member of P.T. Boats, Inc., in Memphis, a member of Fleet Sailors Association, V.F.W. Member, and U.S. Navy in World War II. Services took place at 1:30 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 17, at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer. Burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bethel Springs. Officiating the Services were Ministers Bob Henry and Ray Burks. Pallbearers were Butch Neisler, Danny Landreth, Joe Burkeens, Jackie Roach, Mike Vandiver, and Frankie Gilchrist. Mr. Gage was preceded in death by is parents, Christopher Columbus and Clara Jane Jenkins Gage, and three brothers, Joe Gage, Bud Gage, and Layton Gage. He is survived by his wife, Amy Snider Gage, four daughters, Gale Treece of Selmer, Barbara (Sissy) Moore of Chattanooga, Brenda Rickman of Topsham, ME., and Lila Parker of Nashville, two sons, Chris Gage and Joe Gage both of Bethel Springs, two sisters, betty Smith of Byhalia, Miss., and Peggy Davis of Selmer, and twelve grandchildren. >>>>>>>>>>>>. WILLIAM FLOYD TALBERT, 81, died on Sun., Oct. 10, 1999, at his home of lung cancer. He was born and reared in Chester County, near Enville, son of the lat Charlie H. and Maggie Massengill Talbert. He attended schools at Shaddy Hill and in 1941 was married to Era Mae Kelley of the Hopewell Community. They made their home in the Enville Community, where Mr. Talbert farmed and later retired in 1980 from Oakley Fashions in Jackson as a cutter. He continued to raise cattle and farm until June 1999. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #485 in Henderson and Enville Baptist Church. Services took place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Casey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was held at Sweetlips Cemetery. Officiating the services were Ministers Ricky Sisk and Rev. Danny Duke. Mr. Talbert was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie H. and Maggie Massengill Talbert. He is survived by his wife, Era Mae Kelley Talbert of Enville, three daughters, Patsy Bias and Barbara Pitts both of Adamsville, and Mitzi Ratliff of Morris Chapel, four grandchildren, Amanda Freeman of Regan, Kelli Pitts and Lachelle Gray both of Adamsville, and Nick Ratliff of Morris Chapel, and two gr-grandchildren, Josh and Justin Treece of Adamsville. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> JOHN ANDERSON SR., 72, died Thurs., Oct. 7, 1999, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Selmer to T. L. and Blanch Brown Anderson. He graduated from Selmer High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served on thee USS Louisville CA 28, Okinawa Campaign, 6th Div-1st Loader Quad 40 MMAA. After the war, he began working in industrial sales, most recently in industrial equipment sales fro Murphy Tractor Co. of Booneville. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Selmer and Elks Lodge BPOE 2573. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. Services were held Saturday, Oct. 9th at First Christian Church in Selmer, with Bro. James "Jim" Adkins officiating. Burial was in Selmer City Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Peggy Nelms Anderson; one daughter, Rhonda eve Anderson of Houston, Texas, one son, John Howard Anderson Jr., and his wife, Stacy; two sisters, Blanch Elaine Carrington of Bradenton, FL, and Alice Ella White of Jackson; three brothers, Jack Anderson of Hattiesburg, Rob T. Anderson of Freeport, FL, and Frank Anderson of Selmer; two grandchildren, Johnathan Shaye Anderson and Christopher Robert Anderson, both of Corinth. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Melvin Anderson. Pallbearers were Phil Anderson, Randy Anderson, Bill Anderson, Marc Anderson, Jimmy Latch, Bill Page, Paul Anderson, and Alton Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Broadway, Harvey Cartwright, Willie Cartwright, Dewey Broadway, and Herbie Rogers. He was a retired owner of Dixie Office Machines in Memphis, a member of Popular Avenue Baptist Church, and a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. Grave side services were held at 3 p.m. on Fri., Oct., 15, 1999, at Mt. Gilead in Bethel Springs. Officiating the services was Minister Jerry Cull. Mr. Rushing is survived by his wife, Minnie L. She worked at Salant and Salant Mfg. In Henderson. She was married to James Rubel McKenzie in 1942, and they moved to California for three years and moved back to Selmer where Mr. McKenzie worked 4 years for Shackelford Funeral Home. They moved to Finger when Mr. McKenzie was employed by Home banking Co. At Finger, where he became President and retired in 1985. Mrs. McKenzie worked as a Postal Clerk for the Post Office in Finger for 30 years. She was a member of the Ladies Club in Finger for 40 years, and a member of the First Baptist Church Finger. Services took place at 11 a.m. on Thurs., Oct 12, at Casey Funeral Home chapel. Burial was held at Finger Cemetery in McNairy County. Officiating the services were Ministers Rev. Raymond Hardin, Bro. Kenneth Kitchen, and Bro. Don Lipford. Mrs. McKenzie was preceded ind death by her parents., Harrison and Lillian Lewis Brown,. She was a member of Hornsby United Methodist Church, the Hatchie Chapter of the DAR, Delta Kappa Gamma, a national honor society for teachers, Nations Education Assoc., Tennessee Education Assoc., McNairy County Education Assoc., and the McNairy and Hardeman County Historical Societies and various Genealogy Societies. Services took place at 3:30 p.m. on Mon, Oct. 18, at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer. Burial was held at Hatchie Cemetery near Hornsby. Officiating the services were Ministers Nelson Roberts and Jerry Wilson. Pallbearers were Jimmy Lynn Pierce, Jimmy Waddell, Michael Kirk, James McCrory, David Howell, Mike Vandiver, Mide Exum, and Mike Waddell. Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her parents Joe Vernon and Virginia Lois McCalip Pierce. She is survived by her husband, Lester Howell of Hornsby, three daughters, Gloria Howell of Martin, Cheryl Holt and her husband, Mike, of Lawrenceburg, and Lynn Howell f Memphis, one son, Danny Howell and his wife, Tammy, of Decatur, Ala., one sister Bettye Kirk of Hornsby, one brother, Kelsie Pierce, of Lenioir City, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Zachary Howell of Decatur, Ala,.
