    3. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., June 2, 1999 ALVIN C. ROWLAND, age 74, died on Tues., May 25, 1999, at his home in Henderson. He was born in Chester County, raised in the Woodville Community and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII in the Pacific. He was married to Rovine Hurst in 1946. He farmed and worked at Henderson Hardware, until he was employed by the City of Henderson as an operator of the water plant. He was a member of the Chester County Coon Hunters Club and a member of the Palestine Baptist Church. Services took place at 3:30 p.m. on Thurs., May 27 at Leon Johnson Funeral Home in Henderson. Burial was held at Chester County Memory Gardens. Services were officiated by Rev. Bobby Barnes. Mr. Rowland is preceded in death by his parents, the late John Westly and Addie Evans Rowland. He is survived b his wife, Rovine Hurst Rowland of Henderson, one daughter, Donna Newman of Henderson, one son, Larry Ronald Rowland of New Orleans, LA, two brothers, Aaron Rowland of Haines City, FL, and Ulys Rowland of Selmer, Three grandchildren, Robert Stansell and Brandi Kinman, both of Henderson, and Jeff Rowland of West VA, and four gr-grandchildren. >>>>>>>>>>> JESSIE McCANN DAVIS, age 81, died on Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the West Tennessee Skilled Nursing Center. She was born in McNairy Count and was married to Arl Davis in 1933. They had made their home in the Oak Grove Community of Chester County, where Mrs. Davis worked as a garment Inspector for Salant and Salant inn Henderson for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and took an active role in the Oak Grove community. Services took place at 1 p.m. on Fri., May 28, at the Leon Johnson Funeral Home in Henderson. Burial was held at Mr. Carmel Cemetery. Services were officiated by Rev. Bobby Barnes. Mrs. Davies is preceded in death by her parents, the late Author "Whig" and Celie Weaver McCann, one daughter, Louise Davis, and one son, Joe Michael Davis. She is survived by her husband, Arl Davis of Henderson, one daughter Louise Davis, one son, Charles Howard Davis of Henderson, two sisters, Ava Kauffman of Memphis and Georgia Huey of Birmingham, AL, one brother, Author (Pat) McCann of Milan, four grandchildren, Michael Davis of Houston TX, Jeffrey Davis of Memphis Joel Coady of Nashville, and Bert Coady of Luray, and five gr-grandchildren. >>>>>>>>>>>> FREDERICK ERNEST HOWARD, age 83, died on Mon., May 24, 1999 in DeMotte, Ind. He was a maintenance worker at the Strassburg Elementary School in Sauk Village, Ill. for 13 years, was a veteran of the U.S. Army in service during WWII, and was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Services took place at 11 am. On Thurs., May 27, at Jackson Funeral Services. Burial was held at DeMotte Cemetery in DeMotte, Inc. Services were officiated by Rev. Bob Tobey. Mr. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Ernest and Alta Leavett Howard, a son-in- law, Gary E. Myers, one daughter, Shirley M. Dobson, one sister Florence M. Sanson, and a granddaughter, Tarona "Tonnie" Myers. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Howard, two sons, James E.(Iris) Howard of Grand Rapids, MI, and Timothy R. Howard of DeMotte, Ind., four daughters, Sarah M. Ullrich of Chicago Heights, Ill., Marry O. (Jim) Polletta of Bargersville, Ind., Rebecca F. Gamble of Lafayette, Ind., and Leona June(Steve) Ireland of Astoria, Ill., 21 grandchildren and 15 gr-grandchildren. He was a logger and worked on bridge construction, was a former Deacon at Strickland Baptist Church in Glen, Miss., of which he was still a member, and attended New Life Church. Services took place at 1:30 p.m. on Sun, May 30, at Old Union Church in Hardin County. Burial was held at Old Union Cemetery in Hardin County. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife. Evelyn Melson Johnson of Morris Chapel, two daughters, Wanda Johnson and Glenda Johnson, both of Adamsville, two step-daughters, Rose Provencio of Savannah, and Patricia White of Adamsville, a foster son, Thomas Petty of Milledgeville, three sisters, Sammie Smith of Michie, Lola Hopkins and Lucille Scruggs, both of Humboldt, five brothers, Henry Johnson of Corinth, Miss., Billy Johnson of Glen, Miss, Donald Johnson of Naples, FL, Jimmy Johnson of Humboldt, and Larry Johnson of Tomah, Wisc., one half-sister, Estalle Stutts of Corinth, three grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren. >>>>>>>>>>>>>end Have a great day Barbara [email protected]
