Nancy, I have in my possession, receipts for corn taken from my g/g/grandfather, John Cagle, one by Capt. Risden D. Deford and the second signed by Liut. Calvin Hanna, both representing a Detachment of 6th Tennessee Cav., dated 10 June 1865 and 10 July 1865. They got 20 bushels the first trip, came back a month later and got the 2 bushels he had left. Do you suppose this could have been because John had two sons, one who had been in the Confederate Cavalry and the other in an Artillery Company? Deford and Hanna were both Hardin County Men, Deford from Olive Hill and Hanna from Saltillo. Their detachment was stationed at Clifton TN at that point in time.
