    3. Wow! This is a fantastic list! I've received several responses from people with very helpful information! My TIDWELL line has been a very difficult one to trace. I'm trying to connect with any descendants of the following family which appeared in the 1860 McNairy Co, TN, census: 1894 1895 Nelsom M TIDWELL 53 m $75 GA Lucy TIDWELL 49 f VA John F TIDWELL 21 m TN Robt N TIDWELL 16 m TN Francis TIDWELL 12 f TN I am descended through Francis "Fanny " TIDWELL through her only daughter (born out of wedlock), Martha Ann TIDWELL. Fanny never married and I have no idea who Martha Ann's father was, but have searched for a Robert PURDY who might be a possible lead. The only Robert PURDY I could find, never married or had any children. So that was a DEAD END......... Robert N, above, I believe married Elizabeth ROBERTSON , but never had any biological children, however, he did have a stepson that he lived with in later census years. Another dead-end... There is also another possible unidentified son in this familiy that was born between 1835 and 1840 in Giles Co, TN. Since I cannot find the above family in the 1850 census, I have not been able to find any additional information on this possible male son. It is possible he was not longer living in the household in 1860 so ....Another dead-end.... Lastly, as mentioned in my initial email, I cannot seem to find what happened to John F after his marriage to Mary J BLASSINGAME, and I've wondered if he could have been killed in the Civil War, which would lead me to another dead-end. As far as I can tell, the only descendants Nelson TIDWELL had are through his only granddaughter, Martha Ann TIDWELL, which was my great-grandmother. I know I connect to these other McNairy Co, TN, TIDWELLs because Nelson is probably the son of Rhode TIDWELL, though I have no proof. I just keep hoping to find a clue or thread of evidence somewhere that will lead me to other descendants besides those that are descended through Martha Ann TIDWELL. Thanks so much for all your helpfull advise! 1. Re: [TNMCNAIR] TIDWELLs - FOUND!?!

    3. Sandra, I think I may have found John F. & Mary J. TIDWELL in 1880 in Illinois. I forgot that some people did migrate north! Another reason to look more closely at the Union soldiers Ginger found. The only way to know, for sure, is to locate Mary J(ane) in 1860, hopefully with family members in McNairy Co., to compare birthplaces. From a marriage license we have for our ancestor, Isaac Preston, 1869, McNairy Co., to Susan Wilson nee McDonald, the *bride* had to *reside* in the county the license was taken out for or the marriage would be null and void so Mary Jane must've been living there in 1862 for them to marry there. Of course, she could've been living with friends or relatives. Note that Mary J. was born in IL but her father was born in TN & mother in MS. (No TIDWELL's in Illinois in 1880 old enough to be parents of Mary J. so perhaps they only lived there for a time and returned to TN.) If Mary Jane's age is correct, she would've been 14 years old when they married and he 19. If so, they probably had older children so I found one possibility, also listed below. I don't know the geography of the counties, though, so you'd have to take a look at the proximity of Williamson & Union counties to see if this is plausible. 1880 Census Index.
