I really hope someone can help me. I have searched for several years trying to find the following couple and I cannot find them anywhere. They married in McNairy Co, TN, in 1862: P.97 John F. TidwelL and Mary J. Blasingame applied 6 January 1862, Solemnized 9 January 1862 by William Patterson. I have found John in the 1860 census prior to his marriage but I can't find him in later years and I cannot find Mary before or after their marriage. Does anyone have any clues about what may have happened to this couple after their marriage? Thanks! Sandra

Sandra, I hope you've seen the postings from Ginger and me regarding the Civil War Soldiers theory. You'd have to send for the individual record to find out what became of a particular soldier. Meanwhile, the 1880 Census shows (3) BLASINGAME households in McNairy Co. Could it be that Mary Jane Tidwell lost her husband and returned to live with her family and was listed under her maiden name inadvertently (1st entry shown)? I suggest you locate all BLASINGAMEs in 1860 & 1870 to figure out which family she came from. If you don't find them in TN in 1870 & 1880, the logical places to look are TX, AR, MO, as many left McNairy Co. after the war. There were a great many TIDWELL families in 1880, McNairy Co., as well, but no one fitting the details you provided. Were you able to find the household of John Tidwell's parents or siblings in 1870 or 1880?
