For Sandra Lee who posted the original query (and anyone else following this thread): I received a lengthy email today in response to the TIDWELL query. I let Shirley know I'm not the one interested in this family and I gave her your email address, Sandra. I hope you're receiving this input as we've not heard anything from you since you posted your query. I traveled to Leapwood, McNairy County, TN and the surrounding area, visiting MANY area relatives last summer, who I still keep in touch with. I research my Chandler Family Tree, which my Great-Grandmother was Nancy Ann Tidwell, daughter of James and Sarah Tidwell (married May 19, 1867 in McNairy County, TN). of McNairy County, TN. Here's the info in my geneology book: John Robert Chandler (my Great Grandfather), born June 21, 1876 in Middleton, Tennessee. On January 3, 1897 in McNairy County, Tennessee, he married Nancy Ann Tidwell, born April 9, 1873, in McNairy County Tennessee. John Robert died August 1, 1960 at age 84, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He grew up in Tennessee. The 1900 Tennessee census revealed him to be a 26 year old with his wife Nancy, son Arnold and his widowed mother-in-law, Sarah J. Tidwell a 64 year old professional nurse, living in Leapwood, McNairy County, Tennessee. Sarah or "Sallie" is the daughter of John and Sarah Carpenter of North Carolina. Eber tells of his mother, Nancy playing a harp. Graple remembers Nancy dipping snuff. Angie tells of the time she was 8 years old, nursing her cancer stricken grandmother Sarah J. Carpenter, who married James F. Tidwell on May 19, 1867 in McNairy County, Tennessee. They died in Leapwood, Tennessee. His parents were born in Georgia. He died a horrible death of rabies after! being bitten by his cow. John moved his family to Decatur County Tennessee around 1910 and then to Luther, Oklahoma in 1918. He retired from farming and has lived in the Guthrie area since 1919. He usually had a small garden with plenty of vegetables during the summer. He also loved to fish and it was not unusual for one of his grandchildren to fish with him on the cottonwood creek, especially after he had cataracts that blurred his vision greatly. He truly enjoyed visiting with his brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren. Nancy Ann died of cancer of the stomach and intestines on November 3, 1931, at age 58, in the home of her daughter, Angie McKenzie, Guthrie, Oklahoma. John and Nancy are buried in the Navina Cemetery. (On May 7, 1933, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, 57 year old John married 60 year old Lillie Dye and they lived together until his death). John and Nancy had 5 children, one (Sally) died in infancy.
