    3. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Aug. 3, 2005 LINDA SIMPSON HORTON, 49, of Selmer, TN, passed away on July 28, 2005, at Bolivar General Hospital. She was a retired production worker for ITT and member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Ms. Horton was preceded in death by her father, Joe Lloyd Simpson. She is survived by her mother, Grapel Whitten Simpson of Selmer. Services were at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31st, with Tony Polk officiating. Burial followed in Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs,TN. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of the arrangements. ............. MARYJO KAITLIN PICKENS, stillborn, passed away on July 27, 2005, at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer, TN. She was the infant daughter of Marty and Sharon Gant Pickens of Adamsville, TN. She leaves behind her maternal grandparents, Joe Gant and wife, Sandra, of Tiptonville, TN, and Faye Bartlett of West Memphis, AR; paternal grandparents, Buddy and Brenda Pickens of Adamsville, TN; paternal gr-grandmother, Velma Pickens of Adamsville; two sisters, Shelbie Pickens of Adamsville and Chelsea Pitts of Pickwick; one brother, Michael Pitts of Pickwick; and one aunt, Anita Curlin and husband, Steve of Adamsville. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. on Sat., July 30th, at Mars Hill Cemetery with Phil Mitchell officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of the arrangements. ............. JOSEPH THOMAS ARENDALL was born in McNairy County, TN, on Feb. 26, 1920, the son of Charles Henry and Ruthie Varnell Arendall. On Sept. 20, 1946, he married the former Nita Tidwell, who preceded him in death on July 19, 2003. During World War II, Joe, as he was known to his friends, served as an MP in the United States Army. He was a farmer by trade and an avid walking horse owner and exhibitor. His love of horses led to his membership in the Midsouth Horse Show Association and his veteran's status to his 60 plus years of dedication to American Legion Post 97. A true public servant, he was a member of the Adamsville Lion's Club for 40 years and served as the mayor of Adamsville, TN. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Adamsville and served on the McNairy County ASCS Board. Joseph Thomas Arendall departed this life on Mon., July 25, 2005, in Memphis, TN, at Baptist Hospital at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 30 days. He leaves behind two daughters, Beth Gurley of Germantown, TN and Janet Jerrolds of Savannah; one son, Larry Arendall of Savannah, TN; six grandchildren, Tammy Gurley Drown, Wesley Jerrolds, Kevin Jerrolds, Kim Gurley Blottiaux, Jennifer Arendall DeBerry, and Clint Arendall; and three gr-grandchildren, Meredith Arendall Drown, Alexander Douglas Drown, and Natalie Marie Jerrolds. Services were held in the Shackelford Chapel in Adamsville on Wed., July 27th at 3 p.m. with Andy McClung and William Warren, and Jack Maroon officiating. Burial followed in the Adamsville Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Adamsville Lion's Club at 406 Park Avenue, Adamsville, TN 38310. ............. WILMA LENILE WOODS ARCHER, 91, of Iuka, MS, passed away on July 25, 2005, at Tishomingo Community Care Center. She was formerly of Bethel Springs, TN a member of Iuka Church of Christ and a homemaker. Mrs. Archer was preceded in death by her parents, Jim & Mattie Lane Woods, her husband, Buell L. Archer, one son, Ralph Archer, Sr., one sister, Lucille Woods, and one brother, Willie Woods. She is survived by her grandson, Ralph Archer, Jr. and wife, Robbie, of Iuka; two gr-grandchildren, Adam Archer and wife, Darbi, and Stefanie Archer, all of Iuka; three sisters, Kathleen Lambert of Selmer, Narcissus Douglas of Memphis, TN, and Vonnie Dallas of Cordova, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Services were at 1 p.m. on Wed., July 27th, at Refuge Church of Christ with Lance Foster officiating. Burial followed in Refuge Cemetery in Bethel Springs, TN. ARVIE LINDELL (LYNN) RUSSOM, 80, of Bethel Springs, TN, passed away on July 28, 2005, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was a World War II Army veteran (Pacific Theatre), a member of the Finger Church of Christ, and a retired maintenance worker for General Electric. Mr. Russom was preceded in death by his parents, Mancel and Florence Campbell Russom; one son, Randy Russom; and four brothers, Buford, Everett, Coy, and Windell Russom. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Faye Barnes Russom; three sons, Howard L. Russom of Finger, TN, Sammy Neal Russom of Bethel Springs, and Gerald Wayne Russom of Enville, TN; one sister, Lexie Cone of Finger; six grandchildren and six gr-grandchildren. Services were at 11 a.m. on Sat., July 30th, at Shackelford Funeral Home with burial in Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs. Memorials may be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Thurs., July 28, 2005. Mr. Moak was a Navy veteran and a member of Bartlett Baptist Church. He leaves a wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Moak; a son, Hugh L. Moak, Jr., of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren, Chris Herring, Emily Neyman, Clifford Sims, Angelia Moak and Laura E. Moak. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Simms. Forest Hill Funeral Home of Bartlett was in charge of the arrangements. ............. WILLIAM MILTON ROBERTS, 91, died, Sun., July 24, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare Eastern Shore, in Fairhope, AL. He was born on Aug. 23, 1913 in Leake County, Mississippi. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1937. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Selmer. Mr. Roberts is survived by two daughter, Diane Roberts and Susan Tucker; his son-in-law, Ray Tucker; two granddaughters, Suzy Morel and Kelly Dunham; two gr-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Mary Reed Morel; and one sister, Elva Smith. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Selmer on Sun., Aug. 7th, at 2 p.m. Friends of Mr. Roberts and his family are welcome to attend. ............. CARTHEL SWEAT, 75, of Stantonville, TN, passed away on July 29, 2005, at his home. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, worked in the maintenance department for Shiloh National Military Park, and was a Baptist in belief. Mr. Sweat was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Birdie Carothers Sweat; and sister Offie Kennedy & Sammie Sweat. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Burks Sweat; one daughter, Sabrina Pritchett of Woodland Mills, TN; one son, Ralph Sweat of Martin, TN; and one sister, Faye Dickey of Stantonville. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 31st, in Salem Church Road Cemetery in Union City, TN, with Chip Davis officiating. He was a World War II veteran, a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Selmer Moose Lodge. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, Tide and Eupha Price King, and his wife, Dorothy Kiser King. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda King of Selmer and Barbara White of Bolivar, TN; two stepdaughters, Linda Howell and Shirley Moore, both of Selmer; two sons, Perry Butler of Selmer and Ricky Brumley of New Tazewell, TN; four step-sons, Robert Junior Edwards of Nashville, TN, Jerry Edwards, Steve Edwards, and Jeff Edwards, all of Selmer; two sisters, Inas Jones of Selmer and Rosetta Mills of Middleton, TN; one brother, Arnold King of Corinth, MS; four grandchildren and three gr-grandchildren. Services were at 3 p.m. on Tues., July 26th, in the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with James Howell officiating. Burial followed in Falcon Cemetery in Selmer.
