Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper, Wed., July 21, 2004 JAMES ELMER SWEAT, JR. of Selmer, 71, died on July 13, 2004 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. Mr. Sweat was a truck driver for Chapion Laboratories in Albion, IL. He was a member of the National Guard. Mr. Sweat was also a member of Faith Baptist Church in Selmer. He was preceded in death by his parents James Elmer and Nettie Jewel Clifton Sweat; and his wife, Effie Pearl Sweat. He is survived by a son, Jimmy Sweat of Fairfield, IL; three sisters, Lura Evelyn Jones of Adamsville, Betty Sue Rickman, and Ella Mae Martin, both of Stantonville; and two brothers, Joe W. Sweat of Fairfield, IL and Paul D. Sweat of Adamsville. Mr. Sweat also has four grandchildren, and five gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Fri., July 16th at Shackelford Chapel with Jetta Forsythe officiating. Burial followed at Falcon Cemetery in Selmer. .................. WOODSON "TONY" LOCKMAN of Southaven, MS, 61, died on July 12, 2004 at Methodist South. Mr. Lockman was retired from Quebecor World Printing. He attended First Baptist Church in Southaven, MS. Mr. Lockman was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Blalock Lockman. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lockman of Selmer; and a brother, James Lockman of Southaven. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wed., July 14th at Forest Hill East Chapel. Burial followed at Forest Hill East Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice. .................. JOE D. SCOTT of Selmer, 53, died on July 14, 2004 at Regional Hospital in Jackson. Mr. Scott was an inspector at General Electric. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ardell and Eva Pauline Barnes Scott, and two brothers, William Scott and Eugene Scott. He is survived by his ex-wife, Glenda Gurley of Selmer; a daughter, April Scott of Selmer; two sons, Todd Scott of Michie and David Scott of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Pearl Dean Sims, Mary Irene McDougal, and Conella Elder, all of Michie; and four brothers, Ray Scott of Ramer, James D. Scott of Racine, WI, Bob Scott of Michie, and Ardell Scott, Jr. of Rose Creek. Mr. Scott also has three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Fri., July 16th at Michie Church of God of Prophecy with Dr. Paul Millikin officiating. Burial followed at Michie Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. .................. WILLIAM "W. C." HENSON of Bethel Springs living in Spring Hill, FL, 79, died on July 13, 2004 at his home. Mr. Henson was a member of Northcliffe Baptist Church and was a Deacon of the church. He was employed for 40 years as a rural mail carrier in Bethel Springs and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He was a POW and was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation. He was a tank driver with the 4th Armored Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abner and Olive Moore Henson; a son, Bill Henson; a brother Fray M. Henson; and two sisters, Marie Rankin and Joyce Maness. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Henson; three sisters, Lily Mae Mitchell of Selmer, Kay Gage and Lila Gage, both of Bethel Springs and a brother, Dennis Henson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sun., July 18th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs. .................. MYRTLE A. MOORE HALL of Selmer, 85, died on July 18, 2004 at Jackson Madison General Hospital. Mrs. Hall was a retired machine operator from Brown Shoe Company. She was also a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wess and Minnie Lou Whitten Moore; her husband, James Romas Hall; two sister, Annell Hendrix and Pauline Moore; and a brother, Curtis Moore. She is survived by a son, Glen Hall of Selmer; three sisters, Margie Goodrum of Bethel Springs, Virginia Davison of Batavia, IA, and Betty Ingram of Selmer; three brothers, Arthur Moore of Benton, AR, Odis Moore and Thurman Moore, both of Selmer; one grandchild, Brandon Hall of Pocahontas; four step-grandchildren, George Tennyson of Jackson, Chip Stone, Leavy Stone, and Jennie Foster, all of Selmer; and three step-gr-grandchildren, Madison Tennyson of Jackson, Shelby Foster, ad Brock Stone, both of Selmer. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wed. July 21st at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Dave Green, Mike Hollaway and Aaron Moss officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Bethel Springs. .................. KAREN JEAN SOUDERS of Adamsville, 50, died on July 17, 2004 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Ms. Souders was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Souders. She is survived by her mother, Eleanor Souders of Anderson, MO; three daughters, Felicia Eau-Clair of Adamsville, Sorrell Goff of Selmer, and Sarah Souders of Crump; a son, Daniel Souders of Adamsville; two sisters, Sharon Stoeppelman of Arizona and Janice Maddox of Reno, NV; and a brother, Carl Souders of Joplin, MO. Ms. Souders also had three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sat., July 24th at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer. .................. CHARLIE GARNER OF Booneville, MS, 65, died on July 12, 2004 at Magnolia Regional Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by one daughter and five brothers. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Garner; five sons, Gary Brooks, Dale Grove, Bill Grove, Bobby Jackson, and Jerry W. Garner; a daughter, Tina Garner; and two sisters, Louise Ware and Velma Johnson.
