Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., July 7, 2004 BRODIE TRAVIS ESTES, 85, of Counce, formerly of Memphis and Selmer, retired chemistry professor at Memphis State, died Mon., June 21, 2004 at home. Mr. Estes served in the Air Force during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brodie and Jewell Estes of Selmer, and his brother, George Gilbert Estes of Germantown. Mr. Estes, the husband of Margie Estes, also leaves 3 daughters, Lee Juaire of St. Albans, Ver., Lujayne Cleveland of Merrimack, NH and Lisa Estes of Counce; three sisters, Jettie Hughes of Albuquerque, NM, Joyce Crawford of Memphis, and Betty Johnson of Germantown; and two grandchildren, Theo Juaire and Ashley Cleveland. There was no local service. .............. DENVERED ALLAN JAGGERS of Adamsville, 63, died on June 28, 2004 in Savannah. Mr. Jaggers was born in Selmer. He was a Parts Room Manager for Auqa Glass. Mr. Jaggers was also a member of Maggie Jones Methodist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Lusk of Stantonville, Connie Phillips of Adamsville, and Devan Jaggers of Savannah; two step-daughters, Amber Pickett and Leslie Sewell, both of Henderson; a son, Dakota Jaggers of Savannah; a sister, Linda Rhea of Nashville; and two brothers, Larry Jaggers and Johnny Jaggers, both of Adamsville. Mr. Jaggers also had four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Thurs. at Shackelford Adamsville Funeral Home. Burial followed at Old Union Cemetery in Hardin County. .................. NELLIE MAXINE GIVEN of Adamsville, 77, died on June 26, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Mrs. Given was a homemaker and a member of Rugby Hills Baptist Church in Memphis. Mrs. Given was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey C. Given. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Wiggins of Selmer; a son, Mickey Given of Potts Camp, MS; and a sister, Thelma Graves of Cordova. Mrs. Given also had three grandchildren and two gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Mon., June 28th at Shackelford Funeral Home in Adamsville with Rev. Randy Bynum officiating. Burial followed at Mars Hill Cemetery in Adamsville. .................. DAMETRA BARHAM of Adamsville, 88, died on July 2, 2004 at Tri-County Convalescent Home. Mrs. Barham was a factory worker and homemaker. She was also a member of Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. H. and Patie Inman Treece; four brothers, Ecard, Ernest, J. R. and Amos Treece. She is survived by her husband, Earnest Barham; a daughter, Diane Murray (husband Gary) of Adamsville; a sister, Adren Walker of Adamsville; and one grandson, Jonathan (Jon) Murray. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sun., July 4th at Shackelford Chapel in Adamsville with Bro. Joe Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Mars Hill Cemetery in Adamsville. .................. ZELONA PEARL ROULAINE WILLCUTT of Selmer, 85, affectionately known to many as "Honeycutt" died on June 30, 2004 at McNairy County Health Care Center after a temporary week-long stay for physical therapy. Mrs. Willcutt was born in Brent, AL and lived in and around Birmingham, AL for many years, before moving to Selmer in 1961. Her beloved husband's evangelistic ministry took them to many parts of Mississippi and Alabama during many years of ten revivals, daily radio broadcasts, and church plantings. She as an accomplished pianist, accordionist, and organist she joyfully used her talents as they ministered through out the Mid-South. She taught piano at Rose Creek, Selmer, and Bethel Springs Elementary Schools for some thirty-five years. In addition to her duties as a Sunday School teacher, she was organist for and member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church for twenty-eight years, also serving as pianist for McNairy County Baptist Association for many of those same years. After retirement, she became pianist and member of Eastview Baptist Church and served there until her death. She ministered to many families through her music both at weddings and funerals. Mrs. Willcutt led an exemp! lary Christian life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Willcutt was preceded in death by her parents, Pearly Auderlia Phelps RouLaine and Thornia RouLaine, Sr.; three brothers, two sisters, and two gr-grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband of sixty-seven years. Rev. B. C. Willcutt, a resident of Tri-County Convalescent Home, she is survived by four daughters, Zecora Sanders of Sheffield, AL, Hilda Landers of Mobile, AL, Lorraine Henley of Selmer, Brenda Thon of Franklin. Mrs. Willcutt also has fourteen grandchildren and twenty gr-grandchildren. Her "home-going" celebration was held at 2 p.m. on Sat., July 3rd at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with her pastor, Rev. Jetta Forsythe officiating. Her 5 grandsons, two grandsons-in-law, and one gr-grandson served as pallbearers. Her sons-in-law were honorary pallbearers. Burial followed at Eastview Baptist Church Cemetery in Eastview. .................. WILFORD LEE LIPFORD of Michie, 73, died July 3, 2004 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mr. Lipford was a member of Acton Church of Christ and an U. S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Lee and Atwell Gladys Carroll Lipford and one brother, Tom Burks. He is survived by his wife, Martha Fowler Lipford; two sons, Gary Lipford and wife Sherry of Michie, and Jeffery Lipford and wife Lisa of Michie; a daughter, Susan Simmons and husband, Mike of Corinth; two brothers, Jimmy Lipford of Shiloh and Herb Burks of Corinth; four sisters, Frances Gary of Shiloh, Nora Mae Ashe and Ruth Barber, both of Selmer, and Margaret Marecle of Kossuth, MS; eight grandchildren, Greg Lipford, Cody Lipford, Andrew Lipford, Matthew Lipford, Hannah Lipford, Lauren Simmons, Ethan Simmons, Bayle Simmons; and one gr-grandchild, Greenlea Lipford. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Mon., July 5th at Acton Church of Christ with Mike Eaton and Malcolm George officiating. Burial followed at Acton Community Cemetery in Acton. .................. HAYWOOD (TOOTER) POINDEXTER of Atoka, 70, died on July 4, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Poindexter was a retired from Morral Metal Manufacturing. He was also a member of Michie First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Otis Poindexter and Thelma Willis Poindexter Waddell. He is survived by two brothers, Charles Poindexter of Atoka and Tommy Poindexter of Knoxville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tues., July 6th at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with Brian Rainey officiating. Burial followed at Carter Cemetery.
