Celia America Crump and John Leweter, married ca 1876. Celia was the daughter of Elizabeth Steadman and Dr Richard Crump. Miss Bessie Dodds and Miss Mary Dodds chop cotton in their field adjoining the old Purdy Courthouse lawn. They lived in the only house that is still standing from the pre Civil War days. Jopling was McNairy County Sheriff at the time of the first and only legal hanging in McNairy County which took place Sept 7, 1860. Murray School House students 1838-39. It was passed on to Troy Tacker then to Marie Tacker Henry.
