    3. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., June 6, 2004 MARY LOUISE LINDSEY of Selmer, 94, died on June 11, 2004 at Sunrise Senior Living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mrs. Lindsey was a member of Selmer First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lindsey was a secretary for over twenty-five years at Charleston, MS Water Department. She was also a member of the Magnolia Garden Club in Charleston, MS where she lived for approximately twenty-five years. She had also worked as a department store clerk and as a gift store buyer. She had won several blue ribbons in flower arranging. Mrs. Lindsey loved to paint, sew, fish, nature, and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rube King and Eula Woods King; her husband, J. H. Lindsey; a sister, Varla Plunk; and two brothers, Grady King and James King. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Sue Wilson of Brandon, MS; two granddaughters, Debbie Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA and Lisa Massey of Brandon, MS; and three gr-grandchildren, Troy, Cameron, and Rachel. Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. on Tues., June 15th at Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer with Rev. Mike Pilcher officiating. ................. Funeral services for FULTON BRADLEY YORK, one month, of Cookeville were held on Wed., June 9th at 3 p.m. at Chewalla Baptist Church in Chewalla with Rev. Richard Doyle and Rev. Tim Frank officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Creek Cemetery in Ramer. Fulton died on Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kayla Denise York. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Robin Banks York; a sister, Victoria Lynn York; paternal grandparents, Marvin and Nell Derryberry York of Chewalla; maternal grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Elrod Banks of Sparta; gr-grandparents, Inez Banks, Emmit Banks and Jerry Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to Stevens Street Baptist Church Children's Playground, 327 W. Stevens St., Cookeville, TN 38501. ............. ALMA RAMSEY WARDLOW of Adamsville, 93, died on June 7, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer. Mrs. Wardlow was a homemaker and a member of Stantonville Methodist Church. She also attended Shiloh Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Ramsey and her second husband, Earl Wardlow. She is survived by two daughters, Martha Nell Qualls of Savannah and Dale Forsythe of Hernando, MS; a son, Billy Ramsey of Adamsville; a sister, Marie Rickman of Stantonville; and a brother, Alex White of Stantonville. Mrs. Wardlow also had seven grandchildren and eleven gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Thurs., June 10th at the Shackelford Chapel in Savannah. Burial followed at Stantonville Cemetery in Stantonville. ................. JIMMIE KARENE BARRON of Selmer, 92, died on June 13, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital. Miss Barron was a homemaker. She was a member of Selmer First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Annie Milligan Burkett; her stepfather, Silas Patterson; her husband, F. M. Barron; two sons, Jerry Barron and Jimmy Barron and his wife Patricia; and three grandchildren, Bertrand Barron, Steven Barron, and Ross Barron. She is survived by a son, Ed Barron and Glenda of Selmer; a daughter-in-law Betty Barron; a sister, Faye Springer of Dyer; a brother, Asa Patterson of Dyer; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Houston, Rebecca Reynolds, and Laura Rickman. She also had five gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Tues., June 15th at the Shackelford Chapel with Mike Pilcher officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer. ................. JAMES A. "BUSTER" CHRUCHWELL, JR. of Michie, 75, died on June 8, 2004 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Mr. Churchwell was a retired electrician and a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Mystic Order of The Shrine on Corinth Temple. He was a member of 32rd Degree Mason in the Adamsville Lodge. Mr. Churchwell was also a United States Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his father. James A. Churchwell. He is survived by his mother, Flora Fisher Churchwell of Michie; his wife, Ann Carroll Churchwell; a daughter, Joy Ashcraft of Corinth; a son, Mark A. Churchwell of Cheverly, MD; a sister Janice Wood of Michie; four brothers, George Churchwell, Joel Churchwell, and Tommy Churchwell, all of Michie, and Danny Churchwell of Ramer; and three grandchildren, Benjamin Terrell Brewer, Matthew Tyler Ashcraft and Anna Carroll Ashcraft all of Corinth. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Thurs., June 10th at Lebanon Cemetery in Michie with Danny Adkisson officiating. MARGIE STANFORD RICKMAN of Milledgeville, 85, died on June 10, 2004 at Jackson General Hospital. She was born in Decatur County in the Bath Springs Community, the daughter of the late Oscar and Pearl Stafford Stanford. She grew up in the Enville-Mt. Zion area and attended Mt. Zion School in McNairy County. In 1936 she was married to Otis Rickman of Milledgeville and they made their home in Milledgeville, Mt. Zion area. She raised her family and farmed alongside her husband, Otis, until his death in 2000. Mrs. Rickman was a member of the Milledgeville United Methodist Church. She is survived by four sons, Wayne Rickman of Orlando, FL, Lynn Rickman of Savannah, Neal Rickman of Milledgeville and Royce Rickman of Valdosta, GA; two daughters, Diane Newell of Selmer and Rita Thomas of Valdosta, GA; and fourteen grandchildren and eighteen gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Sat., June 12th at Milledgeville United Methodist Church with Pastor John Johnston, Dr. Howard Thomas and Wayne Rickman officiating. Burial followed at Milledgeville Cemetery. ................. MARIE TEAGUE McMAHAN of Hornsby, 83, died on June 8, 2004 at her residence. Miss McMahan was a homemaker and attended the Hatchie Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua Moss and Maude Sanders Teague. She is survived by her husband, Phinis H. McMahan; a daughter, Maudie L. Lacefield of Hornsby; and three grandchildren, Angela Lacefield, Chris Lacefield, and Jason Lacefield. Miss McMahan also had five gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Thurs., June 10th at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Hatchie Cemetery in Hornsby. ................. HUBERT CECIL BENNETT, JR of Tishomingo, MS, 58, died on June 11, 2004 at V. A. Medical Center in Memphis. Mr. Bennett grew up in the Carter's Branch Community and later joined the U. S. Army. He diligently served his country in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967, where he received the National Defense Service Medal and The Vietnam Service Medal. He professed at hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Carter's Branch M. B. Church in Tishomingo, MS. He later united with the First Missionary Baptist Church in Iuka, MS where he continued to be a faithful member and dedicated church worker. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and as one of the musicians. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Sr. and Mattie Lee Bennett and a brother, Gene Howard Bennett. He is survived by Virginia M. Bennett of Tishomingo, MS who was a devoted wife for twenty-eight years and a devoted friend until his departure; a son, Sidney (Sonya) Bennett of Saltillo, MS; a daughter, Regina D. Bennett of Tishomingo, MS; a brother, Lawrence (Robbie) Bennett of Sheffield, AL; five sisters, Ruby Smith of Memphis, Betty (Lee) McCullar of Rienzi, MS, Violet (Robert) Stricklen of Blue Mountain, MS, Brenda (Prentiss) Harris of East Moline, IL, and Mildred (Bobby) Powell of Tishomingo, MS; an uncle, James Bennett, Sr. Of Muscle Shoals, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Tues., June 15th at Carter's Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Tishomingo, MS with Rev. L. Perry of First Baptist Church of Iuka, MS officiating. Burial followed at Carter's Branch Cemetery in Tishomingo, MS ................. ERNEST LEE McDOWELL of Selmer, 79, died on June 10, 2004 at Tri-County Convalescent Home. Mr. McDowell was a service station employee at the Selmer North Y Amoco. He also served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Etta Lee Hawkins McDowell; his wife, Birdie McDowell; a son James Larry McDowell; and a step-daughter, Florence Replogle. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ann Taylor of Newport News, VA; a step-daughter, Clara Pace of Walnut, MS; a son, Ernest Lee McDowell, Jr. of Newport News, VA; seven step-sons, Boyd Phelps of Houston, TX Bruce Phelps of Texas, Don Phelps of Covington, Gene Phelps of Corinth, Larry Phelps of Deer Park, FL, Terry Phelps of Denver, CO and Van Phelps of Jackson. Mr. McDowell also had several grandchildren and gr-grandchildren. Memorial services were at 7 p.m. on Sat., June 12th at the Shackelford Chapel.
