Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., Feb. 8, 2006 RICHARD BARNES of Adamsville, TN, was born on Mar. 14, 1921, in Hardin County, TN, the son of the late James and Martha Cordelia Alexander Barnes. Mr. Barnes was united in marriage to the former Sue Arnold, who preceded him in death. He worked as a farmer and in construction. Mr. Barnes was of Baptist belief. He departed this life on Feb. 4, 2006, at Hardin County Nursing Home at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 21 days. In addition to his parents and wife, Sue Arnold Barnes he was preceded in death by two sisters, Osie Miller and Nola Crumby, and four brothers, Claude, Marvin, Truman and James Robert Barnes. Services were held on Mon., Feb. 6th, at 11 a.m. in the Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, TN with Billy Barnes officiating. Burial was in Old Union Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah were in charge of arrangements. ................. THOMAS WADE MCBRIDE, age 95 of Selmer, TN, passed away on Feb. 4, 2006, at Lynnfield Place in Selmer. He was a retired salesman, director of McNairy County Elections Commission for 15 years, a lifetime member of the Selmer Lions Club, a charter member of the Board of Directions of the McNairy County Farm Bureau, and a member of the Selmer First United Methodist Church. Mr. McBride was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. and Mattie Hunt McBride; his wife, Pauline Thacker McBride; one son, Victor Glenn McBride; one daughter-in-law, Junelle Johnson McBride; one sister, Oaunita McBride; and one brother, Willie Irak McBride. He is survived by one daughter, Alice Wade Thrasher of Selmer; one daughter-in-law, Anita Johnson, McBride of Jackson, TN; one brother, John Wallace McBride of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren, Karen Channell of Selmer, Kathryn Fitzmaurice of Glen Burnie, MD, Kristen Tudman of Sherrill, NY, and Trevor Wade Thrasher of Wilmington, OH, and seven gr-grandchildren. Services were at 11 a.m. on Wed., Feb. 8th, at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Pilcher officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer. Any memorials may be directed to the Selmer First United Methodist Church. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of arrangements. .................. ELAINE (POLLY) HICKS KING, age 81 of Burnsville, MS, passed away on Feb. 4, 2006, at Tishomingo Manor in Iuka. She was a member of Moore's Schoolhouse Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents, Arlie Marshall and Amy Skelton Hicks; her husband, Warren D. King; four sons, Dwight, Dennis, Richard, and Gary King; one sister, Lorraine Nederstat; and one brother, Cecil Hiscks. She is survived by five daughters, Janet Williams of Selmer, TN, Diane Kirk and husband Terry of Pocahontas, TN, Rhonda Kiestler and husband Steve of Bethel Springs, TN, Nancy Odom and husband Ronnie and Lisa Rorie and husband Earnest, both of Burnsville, MS; one son, Roger King and wife Doris of Selmer; one sister Jo Ellen Kirby and husband Billy Joe of Adamsville; sixteen grandchildren and 20 gr-grandchildren. Services were at 11 a.m. on Tues., Feb. 7th, at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Cull officiating. Burial followed in Moore's Schoolhouse Cemetery in Selmer.
