Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., Jan. 19, 2005 WILLARD DOLEY SURRATT, 84, of Selmer, TN, passed away on Jan. 11, 2005 at Jackson Regional Hospital. He was previously employed at the Corinth Lumberyard, the Chevrolet Co. in Selmer, and was also a farmer. Mr. Surratt was preceded in death by his parents, Doley and Della Surratt, and one son, Billy Lee Surratt. He leaves behind his wife, Amie Surratt; five sons, W. J. Surratt, Jerry Surratt, John Surratt, Jeffery Surratt, and Randall Surratt, all of Selmer; seven daughters, Lois Burns and Charles of Guys, TN, Frances Askew of Paducah, KY, Claudella Stackens and Jerry of Selmer, Pam McClarin and Melvin of Selmer, Ruthie Amos and Larry of Selmer, Cathy Jackson and Bobby of Corinth, MS, and Carolyn Surratt of Selmer; and a host of grandchildren, gr-grandchildren, and gr-gr-grandchildren. Services were held on Jan. 15th at 2 p.m. at Cypress Creek First Baptist Church with Pastor Clifford Wynn officiating. Burial followed in Sandhill Cemetery. Grayson Funeral Services was in Charge of arrangements. ........ COY G. FLOWERS, 71, of Bethel Springs, TN, passed away at his residence on Jan. 9, 2005. He was retired from Chrysler Motor Company, a member of First General Baptist Church in Detroit, MI, where he was formerly a Deacon, a member of the Purdy Masonic Lodge, and a United Stated Navy Veteran. Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Bulon and Attrice C. Isbell Flowers; two sisters, Eva Jewell Hatch and Ruby Douglass; and one brother, Lavergne Russom. He is survived by one sister, Pearlene Garner of Bethel Springs; four daughters, Shannon Strawser of Gibraltar, MI, Sheila McKinney of Monroe, MI, Dawn Howell of Warren, MI, and Sue Verbiest of Eastpointe, MI; two sons, Mike Flowers of Bethel Springs and Paul Flowers of Shelby Township, MI; eighteen grandchildren and six gr-grandchildren. Services were Wed., Jan. 12th at 11:30 a.m. at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Pickens officiating. Burial followed in Woodville Cemetery in Bethel Springs. She was a retired Material Handler at Garan, Inc., and a Baptist in belief. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland and Minnie Lee Willis McClain. She is survived by her husband, Kluby Evans; one sister, Betty Horton of Selmer; and one brother, G. C. McClain of Selmer. Services were Fri., Jan. 14th at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer. Burial followed at Bethesda Cemetery in Selmer. WILLIAM HARRISON SMITH, 80, of Selmer, TN, passed away on Jan. 10, 2005 at Hardin County Nursing Home in Savannah, TN. He attended Oak Hill Church and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Will J. and Pink Maggie Carney Smith, his wife Bessie Mae Smith, and step-daughter, Jackie Bell Thorne. He is survived by three nieces, one nephew and five step-grandchildren. Services were Wed., Jan. 12th at 3:30 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Chapel with Gerry DuBoise officiating. JERRY WAYNE HOOPER, 61, of the Cabo Community area passed away on Jan. 11, 2005. He was a member of the Stone Hill Pentecostal Church, a Forestry Technician, and active member of the Masons where he served as Master Mason, a member of the Election Commission, and was employed at Bailey Brothers Trucking and the Chester County Sheriff's Department in his earlier years. Mr. Hooper was preceded in death by his parents, Otis L. Hooper and Elsie Connor Hopper Gray. He leaved behind, his beloved wife, Emma; one daughter, Mistie Michelle Hopper Ellis and her husband, Jeremy; one son, Mark Rowland and his wife, Martha; two sisters, Marietta Zarr and Joyce Hopper of Williamsport, PA; and a beloved granddaughter, Braelyn Kira Ellis. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Sat. Jan. 15th at the Pentecostals of Henderson Church with Bro. Ronnie Gray officiating and assisted by Bro. Clifford Stone. Burial followed at Silerton Cemetery in Hardeman County. Casey Funeral Home of Henderson was in charge of services. Masonic services will by at 7 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 21st. ............ ZELDA MAE RIDDLE, 86, of Michie, passed away on Jan. 16, 2005, at McNairy Regional Hospital. She was a member of Michie Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Riddle was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Miles. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Miles of Michie and a son, Charles W. Riddle and wife, Cheryl of Memphis, four grandchildren and two gr-grandchildren. Services were Tues., Jan. 18th at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Carter Cemetery in Michie. MARTHA JANE UNDERWOOD CURTTRIGHT, 69, of Stantonville, TN and formerly of Covington, TN, passed away on Jan. 14, 2005 at her residence. She was a member of Rialto Baptist Church and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Curttright was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Sales and Alma Jane Nason Rowland, two husbands, Howard Clark Underwood and Robert Curttright, and one brother, Floyd Rowland. She leaves behind one sister, Carmen Root; three brothers, Barrett Rowland and Casper Rowland of Covington, and Herbert Rowland of Wynne, AR: five daughters, Debra Vickery of Jacksonville, FL, Sandra Binger of Selmer, TN, Brenda Tucker of Brighton, TN, Karen Johnson of Stantonville, and Donna Archer of Covington; three sons, Daniel Underwood of Memphis, TN, Stephen Underwood of Atoka, TN, and Michael Underwood of Ripley, TN; twenty grandchildren, and fourteen gr-grandchildren. Services were held on Sun., Jan. 16th at 3 p.m. at Covington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Morrison's Memorial Gardens of Brighton, TN. Covington Funeral Home was in charge of all the arrangements. ............ ARNOLD EUGENE NIX, 73, of Adamsville, TN, passed away on Jan. 17, 2005, at Jackson Regional Hospital. He worked for the City of Adamsville Sanitation Department and was a member of Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church. Mr. Nix was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Viola Nixon Nix, one brother, LaFoy Nix and one sister, Mary Dell Lang. He is survived by one brother, Donald Nix of Adamsville. Services were held on Tue., Jan. 18th at 1 p.m. at Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church with Jeff Carter officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Vinson Cemetery in Stantonville, TN.
