Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., Aug. 31, 2005 CHRYSTAL DAWN PANNELL TOWNSEND, age 41 of Gatlinburg, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wed., Aug. 17, 2005. She was a devoted Christian, mother, wife, daughter, sister, and true friend. She was born in Haines City, FL, on Dec. 17, 1963, and was a 1981 graduate of HCHS. She was the daughter of Janice Shepherd Gabriel and Marcus L. Pannell of Adamsville, TN. She leaves her husband, Mike, and precious daughter, Chelsea Townsend; sister, Harvetta Williams, and Danita Wright of Adamsville; Holly Walker of Pigeon Forge, TN; brothers, Marcus V. Pannell of Wears Valley and Brandon Pannell of Adamsville. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vernon and Aline Shepherd. She was a member of the River Heights Foursquare Church. Funeral Services were held on Fri., Aug. 19th, at the Oak Street Church of God with Rev. John Nations, Pastors Bill and Missy Williams, and Rev. Mike Beck officiating. Entombment followed at Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens in Pigeon Forge. .......... "BIG" JOHN LOUIS BARCLAY, age 64, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tues., Aug. 23, 2005, in a local hospital. Mr. Barclay was born in McNairy County on June 6, 1941, the son of the late Robert Wilson and Willie Parker Barclay. He was employed at OCI (Lamar Advertising) for twenty-eight years and J & L Trucking for three and a half years. Mr. Barclay was a very devoted father and enjoyed repairing clocks and watches, going to Flea Markets, and meeting people at the Huddle House. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barclay is preceded in death by one brother, John Robert Barclay. Mr. Barclay is survived by one daughter and her fiancé, Kathy Marie Barclay and Nathan Lang, both of Rome, GA; and two brothers, James and Carol Ann Barclay of Eads, TN, and J. C. and Carolyn Barclay of Selmer, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held on Sat., Aug. 27th at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. David Blasingame and Rev. Mike Davenport officiating. Internment followed in Floyd Memory Gardens. NOWLIN, age 79, of Stantonville, TN, passed away on Aug. 26, 2005, at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer, TN. He was a member of West Shiloh Baptist Church and a retired farmer. Mr. Nowlin was preceded in death by his parents, Gifford Robert and Georgia Nunley Nowlin; and one son, Teddy Robert Nowlin. He is survived by his wife, Nell Jamerson Nowlin; one brother, W. T. Nowlin and wife Billie of Adamsville, TN; two grandchildren, Beth Glisson and Teddy Robert Nowlin, Jr. and wife Karen; and one gr-grandchild, Anna Katherine Glisson. He was co-owner of Locke Brothers Lumber Company, owner of Pappy John's Original Barbecue, former McNairy County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace, and a member of the Sanctified Church of Christ. Mr. Locke was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Goolsby Locke; and his parents, Ernest and Dovie Kirk Locke. He is survived by one daughter, Betty Howell of Selmer, TN; one son, Kenneth Locke of Selmer; two sisters, Sue Hill and Vergie Redmon of Selmer; two grandchildren, Angie Donahoe and Sonya Burton; two step grandchildren, Teresa Bradley and Andy Willis; three gr-grandchildren, Harrison Donahoe, Abigale Burton and Sam Burton, and four step gr-grandchildren, Chap Bradley, Max Bradley, Charlie Willis, and Jay Willis. He was retired from Reynolds Metal of McCook, IL, with 32 years of service, and has lived his retirement years in his hometown of Selmer, TN. He was a decorated veteran of Korea, having served two tours and awarded a silver star. Funeral services were held on Fri., Aug. 26th, in the Shackelford Chapel in Selmer at 1 p.m. with burial in Lake Hill Memory Gardens in Bethel Springs, TN. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Fred, and Ed Mahr, Sr. and Christopher and Adam Cholewiak. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loraine Borden Wolfe of Selmer, TN; three children, Karel Mahr and husband Ed of Downer's Grove, IL, Venita Cholewiak of Homer Glen, IL, William Wolfe of Selmer; two granddaughters, Tammie Mahr of Downer's Grove, and Brittany Pow of Bolingbrook, IL; four gr-grandchildren, two brothers, Curry Wolfe of Arkansas and Bobby Wolfe of Georgia; and his loving caretaker, Tammy Tucker of Selmer. Mr. Wolfe of proceeded in death by his mother, Doll Watson Wolfe. .............. EVELYN BOYETTE, age 78, of Pocahontas, TN, passed away on Aug. 29, 2005, at her home. She was a member of Antioch Church of Christ and a homemaker. Mrs. Boyette was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Vergie Foster Blankenship; four sisters, Virginia Fortune, Ruby Young, Trudie Horton, and Sadie Demming; and two brothers, Jessie Blankenship and Cecil Blankenship. She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Boyette; one daughter, Bonnie King of Henderson, TN; two sons, Dwight and Steve Boyette, both of Pocahontas; four grandchildren and four gr-grandchildren. HORNER, age 74, of Selmer, TN, passed away on Aug. 22, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, TN. He was a member of Selmer First Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of the VFW. Mr. Horner is survived by two daughters, Sandy Chesnutt of Bristol, TN, and Penny Lyles of Holly Springs, MS; one son, Eric Scott Horner of Ringgold, GA; three sisters, Billie Cox of Collierville, TN, Lee Terry of Beebe, AR, and Dale Whitehorn of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren and one gr-grandchild. He was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Lewis Homer and Opal Tidwell Wilkins. He attended school in Chester County and graduated in 1955. He entered the Navy and served in Japan and Hong Kong. He was discharged in 1959 and lived in Memphis and worked at odd jobs and moved to California where he worked for an electronic firm, working on electronic machines. He moved to Henderson in 1981 and began working on office machines at Henderson Office Supply and retired in 2001, due to poor health. Mr. Wilkins is survived by four sisters, Bobbie Thurmond of Jacksonville, FL, Joyce Hoskins of Alexandria, VA, Peggy Wilkins of Memphis, TN, and Cathy Walker of Selmer, TN; two brothers, Lewis Wilkins of Henderson and Jerry Wilkins of Finger, TN; and eleven nieces and nephews. Services were at 10:30 a.m. on Thurs., Aug. 25th, in the Leon Johnson Funeral Home with Bro. Elmer Cole officiating. Burial followed in Center Hill Cemetery. She was a member of Butler's Chapel Baptist Church and a retired sales clerk and production worker. Ms. Reed was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Martha Carter Reed, and two brothers, Leonard and J. C. Reed. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Crabb, Eddie Jo Kelley, and Betty Dawson, all of Ramer, and Gladys Butler of Chewalla, TN. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of the arrangements. .............. R. L. "JUNIOR" HEATHCOCK, age 59, of Finger, TN, passed away on Aug. 28, 2005, at Jackson General Hospital. He was born in Jackson, TN, the son of Hilda Woodward Brown and the late Robert Lee Heathcock, who died when he as very young. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Guy Brown. He attended school in Bethel Springs, TN and Chester County High School. He served with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and discharged in 1969 after 2 tours of duty. He lived in Marshall Town, Iowa, until 1988 when he moved back to Finger and later married Kathy Yager in 1988. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Henderson, TN, and he built the Fire Department in Finger, serving as Chief and Volunteer Fireman. Mr. Heathcock is survived by his wife; his mother; four daughters, Jayne Brady and Brenda Warren, both of Finger, Kim Heathcock of Haiti, MO, and Cherish Thyot of Memphis, TN; three sons, Robert and Scott Heathcock of Finger, and Nate Saunders of Laurel, Maryland; two brothers, Harold and Jim Heathcock of Finger; and thirteen grandchildren. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and a retired clerical employee for Western Mental Health in Bolivar, TN. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents, Ira (R.D.) Dee and Celestia Mayfield Sparks; one sister, Iuna Whitten; and two brothers, William Thomas (W.T.) and Albert (A.D.) Sparks. She is survived by her husband, Tom Hill; three sons, Danny Clay Hill of Bethel Springs, TN, Sammy Dee Hill and wife Norita of Hornsby, and Brett Rayburn Hill of Arlington, TX; and five grandchildren, Adam Hill, Dixie Price, Alexandra Hill, Victoria Hill, and Alaina Hill. She was a member of Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer, served as finance chairman of the March of Dimes and the Muscular Dystrophy Association in McNairy County, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by her husband, John Bell Graham, Jr.; her parents, George Henderson and Ora Lucinda Smith Miller; two daughters, Patsy Price and Brenda Sue Graham; one son, Randy Joe Graham; one son-in-law, Gary Tull; one grandchild, Matt Graham; one gr-grandchild, Mattie Bell Horton; and two sisters, Edna Miller and Edith Goodrum. She is survived by two daughters Nancy Hickman and Judy Tull, both of Selmer; two sons, Bill Graham of Selmer and Bob Graham of Bethel Springs, TN; one sister Lola Miller of Selmer; eight grandchildren and six gr-grandchildren.
