I got a few questions about the Purdy calendars from some new-comers to the McNairy Group, , so I thought I would tell everyone at the same time. Purdy was the first county seat of McNiary County, up to 1891 when it moved to Selmer. It was a quaintlittle town, but alas there a few pictures. When the county seat moved, Purdy became a ghost town overnight. The original "court square" is still the main road through Purdy, and a Purdy Ruritan has been organized. Plans are to build a community center, help with cemetery cleanup, and other things to help keep the history alive. The 2005 Purdy Historical Calendar was the first, of what I hope is many. We had a different picture for each month and one for the cover. It was also a community clendar, that list birthdays, anniversaries, and honoriums. It was a great success, but this may be the last year we can get enough Purdy pictures, then plans are to branch out and get pictures from the county. The calendars sold for $11.00 which included poistage and will be the same price this year. We are soliciting pictures of Purdy that we don't have and anyone that submit a selected picture gets a calender. So if you have a pciture email it to me at nancywkennedy@hotmail.com. Right now we don't have any idea of what pictures will be on this calendar, we have some, but not enough. I will annouce the pictures as soon as we know. Nancy
