    3. Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., Aug. 25, 2004 ARTHUR RAY GAGE of Bethel Springs, 72, died on Aug. 16, 2004 at VA Medical Center in Memphis. Mr. Gage retired from the State of Tennessee and Wal-Mart in Selmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a Sergeant and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Bethel Springs. Mr. Gage was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee Gage and Amelia Teague Gage and one sister Rebecca Sims. He is survived by his wife Lila Henson Gage of Bethel Springs, one daughter, Jan Gage of Selmer; one son, Terry Gage of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Kelly Connor and husband Ray, Brian Hurst and wife Trisha; one gr-grandchild, Kaylee Hurst; six sisters, Jo Ann Reynolds of Bethel Springs, Linda Knight of Selmer, Mary Nola Moffett of Selmer, Kathy Weaver of Texas, Jackie Matlock of Selmer and Shelia Moore of Selmer; and one brothers, John Ross Gage of Bethel Springs. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 19th at Shackelford Chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Bethel Springs, TN. ............. CARL EVERETTE MCGEE of Huntsville, AL, 81, died on July 20, 2004. Mr. McGee lived in Huntsville for the past 54 years. He was retired conductor from Southern Railway, member of Holmes Street United Methodist Church, and a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Lawrence McGee; and two sisters Lois McCann and Lessie B. Leonard. He is survived by his wife, Opal E. McGee, daughter, Marcia McGee Ashford of Huntsville, AL; granddaughter, Mary Amber Ashford of Huntsville, AL; grandson, Alex Ashford of Huntsville, AL; 3 brothers Ernest McGee of Madison, AL, Bennie McGee of Bells and Herbert McGee of Selma, AL; two sisters, Doris McGee Robinson of Bartlett, and Joyce Brooks of Selma; and number of nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., July 22nd at Berryhill Funeral Home with Rev. J. B. Pendergraft and Rev. Wendell Trotter officiating. Burial followed at memory Gardens in Huntsville, AL. ...................... JEFF WAYNE LOPORTO of Adamsville, 35, died on Aug. 15, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Mr. LoPorto was a laborer for American Food Service and a member of the National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Angie LoPorto of Adamsville; a daughter, Jessica LoPorto; and a son, Josh LoPorto, both of Adamsville; his mother Mary J. Durbin LoPorto of Adamsville; a sister, Lisa LoPorto Wernimont of Adamsville; a brother, Nick LoPorto of Adamsville. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 18th at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah. Burial followed at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery. ............. DAVID RAY BROWN of Crump, 43, died on Aug. 19, 2004 at Hardin County General in Savannah. Mr. Brown was born in Savannah. He was also a self-employed General Contractor. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Faye Robinson Brown of Crump; his wife, Lisa Wood Brown of Crump; a son, Brandon Ray Brown of Adamsville; a step-son, Ryan Allen Coon of Booneville, MS; two sisters, Debra Stinson of Adamsville and Darlene Schutt of Collierville; and a brother, Eddie Brown of Adamsville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 22nd at Shackelford Funeral Home in Adamsville. Burial followed at Lake Hill Memory Gardens. ............. OSSIE SCOTT SMITH of Bethel Springs, 85, died on Aug. 18, 2004 at McNairy County Health Care Center. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was also a retired machine operator for Brown Shoe Company. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Zander and Maggie Frances Vales Scott; her first husband, Flake Smith; her second husband, Thomas J. Smith; a sister, Iva Leacraft; three brothers, Arthur Scott, Vernon Scott and Thomas (Junior) Scott. She is survived by a son, Terry Smith of Bethel Springs; a granddaughter, Nancy Driskoll and her husband, William of Duxbury, VT; a nephew, Jack Scott of Ramer; and three nieces, Shelby Reeves of Olive Branch, MS, Mary France Rutledge of Ramer and Pauline McLeroy of Bolivar. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 21st with Billy F. McIlwain and Bob Henry officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in McNairy. Memorial contributions can be made to the Finger Community Center or the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. ............. JUNE DAPHINE CLEARY of Michie, 75, died on Aug. 19, 2004 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a member of Michie First Baptist Church. She was also a member of Triple L (Living Longer & Loving) at Michie First Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Charlie Cleary; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Edgar Hopkins; and a daughter, Mary Boneitha Cleary. She is survived by a son, Paul F. Cleary and his wife, Karen of Michie; a brother, Thomas Benton Hopkins of Humboldt; a sister, Betty Jo Curtis of Plant City, FL; two grandchildren, Angie Stadinger of Adamsville and Michael Cleary of Michie; and two gr-grandchildren, Madelyn Stadinger and Spencer Stadinger. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 22nd at Michie First Baptist Church with Brian Rainey officiating. Burial followed at Michie Cemetery in Michie. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. ............. ARENA MAUDE HEATH of Adamsville, 104, died on Aug. 16, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Heath was a clerk at Mildred's Department Store. She was also a member of Adamsville First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Haggard Paulk; her husband, John Heath; two sons, Edsel Heath and Gene Heath; five sisters, Blanche Shaw, Irene Shaw, Pearl Shaw, Bernice Wade, and Ann Abrams; and one brother, Lester Paulk She is survived by a brother, Harry Paulk of Columbia; four grandchildren, Robert Heath of Adamsville, Fran Pusser of Crump, Tom Heath of Memphis, and Bill Heath of Little Rock, AR; on gr-grandchild, Robert Heath of Adamsville; and one gr-gr-grandchild, Arianna Heath of Adamsville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 18th at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Adamsville with Bro. Jim Griffith officiating. Burial followed at Adamsville Cemetery. ............. CHARLES ROYCE SMITH, age 55, passed away on Tues., Aug. 18, 2004 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after a long illness. Charles was born in Selmer, TN the son of Rayburn and Louise Russom Smith of Jackson, TN. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a United Stated Army veteran and a former Mason. In addition to his parents, Charles leaves behind a daughter, Tracey Dawn Christensen and husband Chuck of Memphis; a brother Willard Smith and wife Pam, and a sister, Judy Jordan and husband Carrol, all of Jackson. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, his love for music and all of his friends who enjoyed being part of his music life. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thurs., Aug. 19th at Shackelford Funeral Home Directors in Selmer, with Fate Britt and Arlie Sanford officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery near Selmer. Troy Bridges, Charles Britt, Richard Calloway, Ken McDaniel, Tommy Moore, Buster Qualls and Jimmy Stephenson served as pallbearers. ............. FREEMAN C. WASHBURN of Ramer, 82, died on Aug. 9, 2004 at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer. Mr. Washburn was a member of Friendship Baptist church. He was also a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his patents, John Porter and Ethna Cooper Washburn; and his wife, Delmar Ruth Dancer Washburn. He is survived by two daughters, Yoland Langford of Ramer and Jackie Richardson of Ramer; and a son-in-law, Coach Langford. He also had four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and four step-gr-grandchildren. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 21st at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Brian Jackson officiating. Burial followed at Friendship Cemetery in Ramer. ............. end Have a nice day!
