Appeared in the Independent Appeal Newspaper Wed., Nov. 23, 2005 Funeral services for MARY SUSAN DUNCAN KIDD of Michigan City, MS, were held Sat., Nov. 12th, at the Ashland Church of Christ in Ashland, MS, with Bro. Jeremy Northrup officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Kidd, age 68, died on Wednesday night, Nov. 9, 2005, at Briarcrest Extended Care from complications of chemotherapy. She was a faithful member of the Ashland Church of Christ and a former member of East Frayser Church of Christ in Memphis, TN. Mrs. Kidd was a retired children's dressmaker for the Woman's Exchange in Memphis. Some of her little dresses have been shipped to various parts of the world. She was also a member of the United Friendship Club of Benton County. She leaves her husband of 46 years, Sam Kidd, two children, Deanne Kidd Counce and husband, Hal, of Bartlett, TN and Lee Kidd of Michigan City, MS. She had three grandchildren, Leslie Counce Cruz and husband, Jose, of San Diego, CA, Daniel Counce of Bartlett, TN and Kayla Kidd of Bartlett. She also leaves two sisters, Betty Duncan Vincent and husband Lindsey, of Finger, TN and Linda Duncan Matheny of Michigan City, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Duncan and Myrtle Thornton Duncan of Michigan City. Elders of the Ashland congregation and East Frayser Church served as pallbearers. ............... LODEMA J. (PEGGY) MOORE STANFIELD was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Texas, the daughter of the late George Benjamin (Dink) and Erma Armstrong Moore. She was united in marriage to James C. (Bip) Stanfield on Oct. 28, 1942. Mrs. Stanfield was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in the Hardeman and McNairy County School System for 37 years. "Ms. Peggy" was a dedicated educator who was a positive influence on the lives of the many children who passed through her classroom. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and later earned a Bachelor in Arts from Memphis State University. Mrs. Stanfield was a long-time member of the Ramer Baptist Church, a devoted wife, a proud and beloved mother and grandmother, and a very special sister and aunt. Mrs. Stanfield departed this life on Nov. 16, 2005, in Corinth, MS, at the age of 81 years, 14 days. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James C. (Bip) Stanfield of Ramer, TN; two sons, Roger Stanfield and wife Rebecca of Jackson, TN, and Jarrell Stanfield and wife Teresa of Eastview, TN; three grandchildren, Tyler Stanfield of Eastview, TN, Elizabeth Stanfield of Jackson, TN and Sarah Stanfield of Eastview; two step-grandchildren, David Altfeld of Alpharetta, GA, and Leah Altfeld of Memphis, TN; a sister, Linda Poindexter of Bethel Springs, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stanfield was preceded in death by a son, James Alvin Stanfield; two sisters, Mary C. Ray and Emma Lee Benton; and two brothers, J. B. and Junior Moore. Services were held on Sat., Nov. 19th, at 1 p.m. in the Shackelford Chapel with Jetta Forsythe officiating. Internment followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Eastview. EUGENE MINTON, age 75, of Stantonville, TN, passed away on Nov. 20, 2005, at Magnolia Regional Healthcare in Corinth, MS. He was a Methodist in belief and a retired dozer operator. Mr. Minton was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Madgee Minton; one sister, Mae Downing; and two brothers, Dean and Lonnie Minton. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Minton, whom her married on Dec. 30, 1955; two daughters, Loria Minton and Kim Minton, both of Stantonville; and one sister, Jewel Mitchell of Enville, TN. Funeral services were held on Tues., Nov. 22nd, at 1 p.m. in the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Dannie Kennedy officiating. Burial followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Eastview, TN. Services for Mr. PAUL WHITTINGTON, 90, were at 11 a.m. on Tues., Nov. 22nd, at First United Methodist Church in Selmer, TN. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer. Mr. Whittington was the son of the late Logan Whittington and the late Nola Brady Whittington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Carter Whittington and sister Pauline Dudgeon. Mr. Whittington, the former owner of City Lumber Company, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former President of the Selmer Lions Club, served in the United Stated Navy during World War II, was a founding member of the Board of Directors for First National Bank of Selmer and former member of the McNairy County Commission. His survivors include a son, Jimmy Whittington and wife Annette of Selmer; two grandchildren, Bard Whittington of Vienna, VA and Kevin Whittington and wife, Kellie of Jackson TN; and a gr-grandchildren Mason Aubrey Whittington of Jackson. Pallbearers were Bard Whittington, Kevin Whittington, Phodes Platt, Jacky Joyner, Tracy Horton, and J. D. Matlock. Horary Pallbearers were Jim Rickman, Bruce Manley, Ed Shelby, T. W. McBride and Earl Brown. The family requests that memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Selmer. (GENE) FINLEY SMOTHERS, age 76 of Adamsville, TN, passed away on Nov. 21, 2005, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Savannah and a retired seamstress. Mrs. Smothers was preceded in death by her parents, J. G. and Mary Finley; her husband, Beuford Smothers; three sisters, Faye Crouse, Arlene Harris and Ruby Weeks; and two brothers, J. C. and Eugene Finley. She is survived by one daughter, Trisha Sebastian and husband, Rick, of Jacksonville, FL; one son, Phil Smothers of Enville, TN; and six brothers, Michael Finley of Selmer, and Darrel, Edwin, James, Jerry and Larry Finley, all of Adamsville. Funeral services will be held on Wed., Nov. 23rd, at 1 p.m. in the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel of Adamsville with Todd Alexander officiating.
