We have a few death records in McNairy County. A few before 1900. McNairy County did not start sending their death information to the State of Tennessee until about 1920 - so deaths before that time are hard to find. After 1920 - contact the Tennessee State Archives. Nancy Kennedy Subject: Death Certificates If there is anyone on this list who might be able to get a McNairy County death certificate for me, would you please contact me at: dors1933@vvm.com and let me know the cost. Jimmie P. S. That's two vees in my email address (vvm) and not a dubya.

Hi everyone! Can you help? Need to know more about William C. (Carroll?) PHILLIPS and Lucinda (ELLIS) PHILLIPS family and their families. They show first show up living in District 12, (Mud Creek Post Office) in the McNairy County 1860 Census. He is listed as a tenant farmer with Lucinda as wife. Their children are James, 17, day laborer, Robert, 10, Marion, 7, Almeda, 5, and Amanda, 2. In the 1870 Census they are shown living in District 15, (Purdy Post Office). He is listed as a farmer. The children are Marion, 15 (17?), Almeda, 13 (15?), Amanda, 11,William, 8, Rebecca, 6, and Rufus, 4. Then by the 1880 Census they had moved to District 13 in Hardin County. According to that census, William was born in Tennessee, his father was born in Kentucky and his mother was born in Tennessee. Lucinda was shown as born in Tennessee, her father was born in South Carolina and her mother was born in North Carolina. In all three censuses he was born about 1828 and she was born about 1824, but when and where? I don't when and where they were married. I'd sure appreciate any help. Thanks.
I have been researching my grandmothers side of the family.I have have traced it back to Elhana Winchester Wilson but can not go back any further . I would appreciate any kind of help as to where to look for this information. My grandmother was Opal ( Wilson) Kiser. Marilyn ( kiser) faulk --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I am looking for a Samuel Pearson, born a slave. He is very confusing. He is listed on July 29 1883 as Samuel Irvenson in the marriage records of Mcnairy County and married Ann Pearson. From then on he went by the name Pearson. I do not know if Ann Pearson was a single woman or a widow. That part is confusing also. If she is single she might be the daughter of Joseph Pearson, a salve that was owned by Gilbert or Thomas Pearson. This Samuel, apparently was a sharecropper, because in every census he is in a different district. Instead of Irvinson, he could be a child of Harvey Erwin and Amanda, but this is only a thought since Erwin can be spelled so many ways. In 1920 old Samuel is living with his son James L Pearsonon the Ramer Gravel Hill Rd ( I estimate around Mt Vernon). They moved after 1920 to Gibson County where Samuel died. One time a family with same wife and children is listed as Tom Pearson. James L Pearson married Alberta Horton, maybe Chester County. She was the daughter of Frank Whorton and Julia Draper. Frank dropped the W from his name. This is the most confusing case I have ever worked on and if someone has any information I would certainly appreciate it. Tahnk you. Nancy
The following are death notices, death mentions and obits from the 1903 McNairy County Independent. Friday, 17 July 1903. McNairy County Independent. Two Sad Deaths. Rose Creek, Tenn., July 14, '03. Mrs. Della Hicks, wife of John E. Hicks, died Friday evening and was buried at the Moore's Schoolhouse cemetery Saturday. She leaves a husband and four children, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. She was a good woman beloved by all who knew her. Mrs. Roxie Estes, sixteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Green Estes, on Saturday evening was called to eternity, and buried at Moore's Schoolhouse cemetery Sunday. She was a popular young lady in this community and has many friends to mourn her untimely death. To the bereaved ones are extended the heartfelt sympathies of the people of this neighborhood. Friday, 31 July 1903. McNairy County Independent. Personals. Charley Holmes who has been sick in the county jail for several weeks, died Monday morning. While it is sad to think of a man dying under the surrounding of a prison wall, and with an un-served sentence of imprisonment hanging over him; yet in this instance he had all the care and attention which he could have had at his home. His mother stayed by his side to the last administering to his wants. He occupied the best room in the family apartment of the prison. Sheriff Carroll did everything in his power first to get him a pardon and then after failed, to make him comfortable. This was a great tax on the Sheriff who entertained his relatives during their long stay in visiting and waiting on him. He had been a favored prisoner for some, as when the jail delivery occurred he did not join in and was afterwards the confident of Mr. Carroll in giving information concerning the plans of the prisoners. In truth it is sai! d he was a noble hearted young man whose sin was that of selling whiskey. Friday, 21 Aug 1903. McNairy County Independent. (The following was blurred so forgive errors) Died. W. B. Cantrell, aged about 35 years, at the home of his brother - in - law, George Hurley, on Saturday morning the 16th inst. And was buried at the Shiloh cemetery Sunday; Rev. Maddox officiating. Mr. Cantrell was a son of L. W. Cantrell, well know to all old citizens. He married the oldest daughter of Mr. J. T. Warren, and leaves surviving him his wife and one daughter, aged about 8 years. Mr. Cantrell has been in failing health for several months and had gone to Red Sulphur Springs for his health, but got no relief there, desired to be removed to his sister's without much if any hope of recovery. He had long been a consistent member of the M. E. Church South and of the Masonic order. He was in the prime of life and his death is a severe blow to his family and large circle of relatives. To them we tender our sincere condolence. Friday, 11 Sept 1903. McNairy County Independent. Bethel Springs. Mr. Lige Smith's little girl died since our last communication. Friday, 11 Sept 1903. McNairy County Independent. A Sad Death. Rose Creek, Sept 7 1903. A sad death occurred here Saturday at 10 o'clock A. M., when Guy Moore, son of W. F. Moore, was called from time and borne by Angels to the Great Eternity beyond. He was a bright youth in his seventeenth year, and he leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his untimely death. To his family in their sad bereavement are extended the sincere and heartfelt sympathies of the people of this community; and to Heaven a fervent prayer is lifted that when kindred and friends have paid the Great Debt which all men is inevitable we shall have so lived that we can clasp Guy's hand within the pearly portals of the New Jerusalem. Friday, 18 Sept 1903. McNairy County Independent. Died. Mrs. E. F. Meeks, age 39 years, at her home in Corinth, Miss., Sep. 11, 1903. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Houston of Guys, and sister of Hon. J. C. Houston of Selmer. She was married Oct 1884, and left a husband and three children - two daughters aged respectively 17 and 14 years, and an infant son age two months. Her death was very unexpected and brought sorrow to a large circle of relatives and friends. She was a very exemplary woman with noble traits of true woman and motherhood. We extend our sincere sympathies to all the bereaved family and friends. Jerry D. Duncan

Then send for your DNA kit! http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/family_history/pike/DNA/index.php?content=intro.html The DNA test will help us to learn for sure which PIKE line we belong to. No doubt there are many lines of PIKE families and you can spend lots of time trying to find the connection to the wrong line. My brother, John PIKE, had done the PIKE DNA Testing and it has proven that we are related to John PIKE, "The First" who landed in the Bay Colony in 1635. Look ing for information on Hampton Wade who moved to McNairy from Maury in the 1840's. Hampton was married to an Elizabeth and I believe he came to McNairy with his daughter, Anna Katherine Dearen with whom he and Elizabeth were living in 1850. In 1860 Hampton was living with his son Robert, Elizabeth was not listed in the census. I am trying to find out if Hampton left a will. I am trying to find out the parents of a Clement Wade who lived in Maury near Hampton in the 1830 census. Both Clement and Hampton are recurring family names form the Wades of Halifax County, Va in the 1700's. There was a Hampton Wade who married an Elizabeth in June of 1807 in Halifax, Va. I have seen documents that say he moved to Tennessee but did not give location. Clement is my gggrandfather. He was buried in Shelbyville in 1884. Harvey Wade hrvwade@yahoo.com
The following are death notices, death mentions and obits from the 1903 McNairy County Independent. Friday, 10 April 1903. McNairy County Independent. In Memoriam. The death angel came at 3:30 o'clock, March 25, 1903, and claimed for its victim a husband, father and friend. Luther Rice Littlefield, of Adamsville, Tenn. He was born Dec. 25, 1826, at the good old age of 76 years and three months he died. He married Miss Nancy A. Wolverton in Tippah Co., Miss., Dec 28, 1849, at the age of 22, and for fifty-four years they walked side by side in the road of life. His wife, now feeble and blind is left sitting by his empty chair waiting for the angel to return and take her home to her faithful friend. The year he married he professed faith in Christ, and thus begun his married responsibilities in the cause of Christ. In 1849, Eld. Levin Savage, of happy memory, baptized him in Tippah Co., Miss, and for nearly fifty-four years brother Littlefield lived a consciencious land mark Baptist, devoted to the cause of truth and righteousness. He reared a family of eleven children, s! ome of whom have filled places of public trust, and his family is one of the most honored in the county. He moved to Tennessee in 1850 where by labor and economy he succeeded in earning a splendid living and leaves considerable property to his children, all of whom are married and have families. How seeming sad it is to say goodbye, yet in the evening shadows of life, when pain and sorrows crown our brow, the good hand of Him who loves us, reaches down and takes us away to the Temple where the lights burn forever. Peace to the bereaved and praise to the King who conquered death, and set life's banner over the solemn tomb. Luther Rice Littlefield, dear husband, father, friend, Waited for the message God did send, To call him to glory with the blood-washed blest, And he ceased from labor and went to rest. To all his children his smile was dear, In sunshine and shadows while with them here, For seventy-six years he stood the test, Then said, "I am weary; let me rest". His heart was brave, his life was true, His soul was pure as the mountain dew. His hands were busy and in the sweat of his face, He earned his bread, sustained by grace. His God and his church were his joy and care, In their service he always bore his share, His home and his country he loved to the last, In duty and prudence he found life's task. His examples were all written, where each one may read. His action all made good lessons to heed; His words were well spoken, in kindness and love, His faith pointed upward to God above. We will miss you, dear one, here below, But Jesus did call you and you did go To see Him who sits on the throne, But we will join you when life is done. Yes, God knows best for us, we are so weak; In our grief and our sorrow, Him can we seek, Then when earth's pathway, we no longer can roam, With Jesus in heaven we all may have a home. The hour is coming when you and when I Will put down our burden, for we too must die, Our sun is fast sinking, our bodies must fall, And the death angel for us will shortly call.
