    2. I am looking for information on my GGrandfather Riley H. Mack Hill. I have the following information on him: 1 Riley H. Mack Hill b. 24 May 1843 Tn d. 22 May 1906 McNairy Co., Tn. + Rhoda Caroline Baucom b. 1 Sept 1848 NC d. 25 Feb 1929 McNairy Co. (both are buried Liberty Church Cemetery) At one point, Riley and Rhoda were living next to Rebecca Coffman Hill, widow of Elijah Hill, but I have not been able to tie him in to that family. I have, however, found that Rufus Hill, a son of Elijah and Rebecca, married my GGrandmother Winnie Plunk Barnes after she was widowed. Is anyone doing research on John Cannon Hill b. 1819 or James Hill b. 1823 who were sons of Abraham Hill and Martha Walker in McNairy Co? It is possible that my Riley might be a son of one of these men. I would love to find any information on my Hill line. Ivalon Hill Fox Ivalonf@aol.com

    3. I got this in a daily newsletter and thought I'd pass it along to you guys. Does anyone know what was wrong with a barber shop (#8) back in those days? I think some of these rules wouldn't be so bad to have today! :-) Enjoy! Laurel Crook =========================================== Rules and Regulations for Teachers in 1872 1. Teachers each day will fill lamps, clean chimneys, and trim wicks. 2. Each teacher will bring a bucket of water and scuttle of coal for the day's sessions. 3. Make your pens carefully: you may whittle nibs to the individual taste of pupils. 4. Men teachers may take one evening each week for courting purposes, or two evenings a week if they go to church regularly. 5. After 10 hours in school, the teachers spend the remaining time reading the Bible or other good books. 6. Women teachers who marry or engage in unseemly conduct will be dismissed. 7. Each teacher should lay aside from each pay a goodly sum of his earnings for his benefit during his declining years so that he will not become a burden on society. 8. Any teacher who smokes, uses liquor in any form, frequents pool or public halls, or get shaved in a barber shop will give good reason to suspect his worth, intentions, integrity and honesty. 9. The teacher who performs his labors faithfully and without fault for five years will be given an increase of 25 cents per week in his pay, providing the Board of Education approves.

    1. [TNMCNAIR-L] REYNOLDS/RUNNELS & SEWELL
    2. Julie Preston
    3. Barbara, Jennie/Janie is *not* a child of Moses & Susannah RUNNELS/REYNOLDS --- However, as you can see below, one of their daughters *did* marry a Joseph SEWELL in Pulaski Co., KY, in 1810, so its very likely she was related to this family. This Joseph SEWELL shows up in Franklin Co. with this RUNNELS family from abt. 1819 to 1830. There were other REYNOLDS/RUNNELS in Pulaski Co., KY, and in Lincoln Co., KY, from abt. 1800, and I understand the SEWELL's more or less took the same path as the RUNNELS/REYNOLDS. (Somewhere on-line, someone has a SEWELL family home page --- I'm sorry, but I can't find the URL --- perhaps if you searched the Rootsweb archives (KY and TN) you might find it. ) There were also several other REYNOLDS/RUNNELS in Franklin Co., TN, at the same time Moses was there. (If you do a search through the Rootsweb archives for the TNFRANKL mailing list for Deeds and Runnels, Deeds and Reynolds, Deeds and Sewell, and then just for Sewell, for Runnels, Reynolds (and every possible spelling variation), you might come up with something that will help you. I'd be very interested in what you come up with for possible parents for your Jennie/Janie as her father may be a brother of Moses --- every lead will help, as we don't have parents for Moses yet, nor do we know his wife's (Susannah) maiden name. Since it appears so many events in these families took place in Pulaski Co., KY, I just wish there was a mailing list for Pulaski Co. (and more records uploaded)! Our Betsy (Elizabeth) Reynolds/Runnels was b. ca. 1800, dau. of Moses Reynolds/Runnels and wife Susannah (maiden name unknown). It appears Moses came from Patrick/Henry Counties, VA, to Washington /Carter Counties, TN, in the early 1790's, then to Franklin Co., TN for a short while before moving to Pulaski Co., KY, then back to Franklin Co., TN, ca. 1819. Many of these families were members of the Boiling Forks Baptist Church. Moses died in Franklin Co., TN, in 1827. His will lists his wife and children: Wife: Susannah d. 1859 McNairy Co. Sons: William (co-executor of Moses' will with Joseph Sewell) Henry m. Margaret/Peggy Smith, 21 Feb. 1817, Pulaski Co., KY -- in Franklin Co. 1819-1830, moved to AR, then to TX, was murdered 1844/5! Elisha Daughters: Sarah/Sally m. Joseph Sewell, 12 Dec. 1810, Pulaski Co., KY Susannah m. John Hopper, 12 December 1810, Pulaski Co., KY Keziah m. Reuben McKinzie, 1811, Pulaski Co., KY Rebecca m. Thomas Williams, 1818, Pulaski Co., KY Polly/Mary m. Pumphrey Malone (before 1827, Franklin Co., TN?) Betsey/Elizabeth m. John Preston ca. 1821 (Franklin Co., TN?) Nancy (m. Archibald Myrick aft. 1827) Lavina (m. Nathan Thomas aft. 1827) Ann (m. Sam'l. P. Burk after 1827) Very interested in hearing from anyone else working these lines, as well. 3. Is anyone researching the Ledbetters of McNairy Co, TN? I posted a query, but it was when the list first started. There may now be new subscribers. I have Henry Clay Ledbetter born about l800 TN and died l842-l848 McNairy Co, TEnn. He was married To Elizabeth ? Does anyone know her maiden name? She died in l885 and is buried at the Thacker Cemetery. Henry is on the l840 McNairy Co, TEnn census and Elizabeth is on the l850 and l880 census. Does anyone have her on the l860 and l870 McNairy Co, TN census? In l880 she was with her daughter nancy Thacker. My ancestors Eliza Evaline Ledbetter (d/o Francis marion Ledbetter and Eliza Ann Smith) was raised by her Uncle Henry Harrison Ledbetter (s/o Henry Clay and Elizabeth Ledbetter) in McNairy Co, Tn after both parents died when she was in her teens.
