Charlotte, I may have some information that might be helpful. The James Wilson I have was born in Guilford Co. NC in 1781. He died on May 8, 1854, in McNairy County and is buried in the Bethel Springs Cemetery with his wife, Nancy Cork, who was an indentured servant. I have Nancy's date of birth as June 6, 1798, with her date of death as Aug. 6, 1872. These two are my gggggrandparents. The only children I have for James and Nancy are 1)Robert--born 2/4/1815 and married to Priscilla Pearson; 2) Benitha, who married John Helbert; 3)John; 4) Caroline, who married Neal Gilchrist; 5) Calvin, who married Betsy Pearson first and Lucy Whitten second; 6) Milton, who married Delphia Stanley, and 7) Laura, who married Tom Pearson. I have more detailed information on each of these children and their descendants and would be glad to help with more, if needed. The big question most Wilsons doing research want to know is the one you asked: Who was James' (b. 1781) father? This is where the trail has gone dead. Hope this helps! My gr-gr grandparents lived in McNairy after their marriage in Madison Co. in 1843. They were Volentine McMELLON (b: Abt. 1813 in TN) and Elizabeth DOWNING (b: Abt. 1823 in TN) Their children were William Franklin (mine, b: Nov 30, 1843 in Madison Co, TN), Sarah (b: Abt. 1846), and Ellen (b: Abt. 1849). One of our elder cousins recalls hearing that William got on his horse and rode to Texas when both parents and maybe both sisters died in a plague. He was in the Texas cavalry by 1862, so I imagine it was around 1860. Does anyone know anything about the McMILLANs or DOWNINGs, or about a plague in McNairy? Jim

I am seeking information on the JACKSON family of McNairy County. JACOB JACKSON (born ca 1790, died 1880) and his wife MARY PHILPOTT lived near Coffee Landing and Purdy. Their son REUBEN married EMILY ANN TODD. Emily moved with her children to Leon County, Texas about 1876. I don't know if Reuben moved with them or died in Tennessee. Jacob's second wife was SARAH BURKEEN. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Denice Lipscomb

Researching Wallace/Wallis lines in McNairy, Henderson and Chester Co areas. Anyone out there looking into these family lines? My Gr-Grandfather Andrew Jackson Wallace married Sarah/Sallie Messer in Lexington 1849 and was living with a Mackey family in 1850 census. He was listed as 19, but actually was 16..Looking for his parentage. My Grandfather Christopher Wallace was born in McNairy Co in Bethel Springs in 1872. Sarah Clampett was living with AJ. Wallace in the 1860 census - may be a clue. I believe he had a brother named Elias. This Sarah Clampett was living with Eli in 1850 census. Marlene Shake pachyderm@tri-lakes.net
