Hi all! I am researching the the surnames of EMMONS and MCGEE. I have some info on the EMMONS line but I am really stuck on the MCGEEs. My great grandmother was Chapel Bethel MCGEE b. 28 February 1891 d. July 1977. She married Chester A. EMMONS, son of William Wesley EMMONs, around 1908. I've been told that her father's name was Frank MCGEE but I believe that she may have had a brother named Frank as well. I would like to find out who Chapel's parents were and any info on her siblings. Information on both families is certainly welcome and I'll be happy to share what I have as well. Thanks. Tracy

Joanna was the daughter of George and Susannah E. Gill who lived in the 5th C. D. of Hardin Co., in 1850. She was married to a neighbor, William Jackson White, of Flat Gap in Hardin Co., TN. on 23 February 1854. In 1860 they lived in the 2nd C. D. of Wayne Co., TN with three children: Americas L., 5; William A., 3; and Emily J., age 1 year. On 29 September 1866, William died, perhaps as the hands of bushwhackers in the time of lawlessness following the Civil War. In 1870, Joanna E. White, age 40, DE-4, is living in Decatur County Tennessee as shown by an index of the heads of Households for Tennessee. Have any of you White researchers copied this census information re Joanna White. I would like to know numbers and names and ages of children etc. If you have a lost White in Hardin Co., perhaps I can help. Thanks, David
"Reflection" A History of McNairy Co. TN 1823-1996 was compiled by the "Reflections Committee" for the Tennessee 200 Bicentennial Celebration It is a 697 page book with a 13 page index. This book was published on pre sold orders only. It sold for $39.95 plus shipping. A very nice book. The Reflections Committee did not buy any extras books to sell. There was a business man in Selmer that bought several and has them for sale. We were thankful for his purchased as it kept the committee from going in the hole on expenses and allowed us to finish the project.. But we had no control over his selling price. I have been looking for years for any information regarding a Sam Houston Chase who married Ann Deaton, daughter of Wm. Deaton of McNairy County, Feb. 14 1873 in McNairy Co. They had a child the following year and 5 months later Sam Houston Chase, a carpenter, fell from a roof and died, leaving Ann with the infant (my grandfather). The 1880 McNairy Co census finds Ann and her young son living with her parents in McNairy County, but by this time remarried to a Charles Turner. I have searched far and wide for some clue as to the origins of Sam Houston Chase but have come up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions, clues, facts or ANYthing that might help. Surely a local newspaper of the day would have an article about the death but I have not been able to locate one of that time and place. I dont find any mention of it in the Memphis paper. Any help or hint towards a connection would be greatly & deeply appreciated! Thanks, Nelda

Sara, I know it may not seem like much right now, but the Hicks that I am looking for did come from Tenn. Also one of Nancy Hicks Vantrease's daughters name was Mollie. And my Sarah Hicks also used the name Jane for one of her daughters. May just be coincidence or they could be family names. I mailed off some empty family group sheets to the great grandson of Nancy Hicks Vantrease. He said he would help any way he can. When I get the sheets back I would be happy to share them with you if you are interested? Hi everyone, I'm researching my husband's HARRIS family. I know(?) from a later census that his Pinkney HARRIS was born in TN ca 1853. I searched through every HARRIS family in TN and found an Arthur and Lucy HARRIS family in McNairy County with a son Pinkney the right age. The other children are John, Nathan Arthur, Henry Clay, William H, and Joel James. Father Arthur later remarried and other children by his second wife, Martha BROWDER. I'm looking for proof that this Pinkney is the one I'm looking for, who married in Missouri ca 1870 and was in Arkansas in 1880. Mt Carmel Cemetery in Finger, TN has Pinkney HARRIS died in 1890. Does anyone know anything about Pinkney? My Pinkney HARRIS married a Mary and had children: Emma, Marcus, Quintella, Ollie, and Rossie Grabiel. Thanks for any help!! My great great grandfather Jarrett Scott was born in Marshall CO. AL according to family records was in Civil War. He was married to Mahalia Banister from Cobb CO GA. She is buried near Walnut MS. Have no idea where he is buried. Record in family bible shows that he died Alcorn, CO, MS. They had 3 sons, my grandfather Thomas S. Scott, John and Andrew. My grandfather Thomas married Clarissa Luida Taylor, (at her home),daughter of William Zachary Taylor of Ramer TN. I know nothing beyond Jarrett being born in 1838 so I don't know if there is a connection or not. If anything turns up I'll let you know.
I am looking for information on a Sindy or Synthia Hill who was born May 19, 1855 and married William Josiah "Joe" Riggs on Mar. 25, 1887. They moved to Walker Co., TX (Huntsville) and she died Feb 12, 1895. I am very interested in her parents or siblings. I have nothing on her but these dates. Mary
