Tracy, the only way would be if they track that a name was specifically sent to a specific temple. Then it would be more than likely that a family member did the work. Do not know if this is tracked. Does anyone know if this information is possible? They do temple work is mass quanities, so it is more than likely that the work was done by just about anyone. ---------- > From: Thomas Enterprises <hogwild@i1.net> > To: TNMCNAIR-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [TNMCNAIR-L] Re: "Sealed" marriage records > Date: Wednesday, November 11, 1998 9:18 PM > > > > It took a while but I found my answer on what it means when records > at the Family History Centers are marked "sealed". tracy, Sealed is in reference to Mormon practices. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) beleive that families are eternal. but in order to be eternal them must be "Sealed" together. They do this in the Temples (if you ever get a chance, visit one BEFORE is it dedicated). the best way to describe a "sealing" is 1) that a Man and Woman are married for "time and all eternity". This is one type of sealing. Another 2) is when the children are "Sealed" or eternally connected to the parents. For those who are dead, these sealings are done by proxy. When couples are married (in life) in the temple, their children are automatically sealed to their family. This is why the Mormons are so interested in Genealogy. Every person, every couple, must be sealed to someone, all the way back as far as possible. After this world has gone and Christ issues in the Millimium, temple work will continue for all those who were not sealed in this life, they must have their sealing done then. Everyone must be sealed all the way back to Adam and Eve. But before individuals can be sealed, they first must be bapisted into the (Mormon) church. This again is done by proxy. Afterwhich there are the endowments. Now someone else may have to explain this one. Eventhough I was born (6generations), raised and left (actually thrown out) the Mormon church, I still don't know what Endowments are. I never went thru the temple, so I don't know (guess I ain't "sealed" to my family!). Hopefully this helps. ---------- > From: Thomas Enterprises <hogwild@i1.net> > To: TNMCNAIR-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [TNMCNAIR-L] Question about Family History Center records > Date: Wednesday, November 11, 1998 8:04 PM > > Hello all. It took a while but I found my answer on what it means when records at the Family History Centers are marked "sealed". I was almost right but not quite. Source: Global Media Guide/Temples and Families on the LDS website http://www.lds.org It is according to LDS teachings that marriages can last for eternity but the marriages must be performed or "sealed" (if they're already married) in a temple by the authority of the holy priesthood. These temples are specifically for family-centered ordinances. In a case (such as my great grandparents) where the couple has already passed on, Latter-day Saints stand as proxies for their own ancestors in sealings for husbands and wives, parents and children and baptisms. There is great emphasis placed on performing these temple ordinances. In fact, members are taught that they have a religious obligation to trace their own genealogies and perform temple ordinances for their ancestors. Now, I'm wondering what my chances would be of finding out which descendant of my great grandparents perfomed the sealing ordinance. That info, I would think, would be private since it has to do with a religious ceremony. Any ideas? Thanks. Tracy

Hello all. I'm hoping that someone out there can clarify this for me. A cousin of mine found records on our great grandparents at a FHC in Texas a few years back. He said that the records were marked "Sealed". Now, I thought this this was referring to the Mormon practice of someone being baptized on another's behalf. I don't know much about the Mormon religion but I had read of that practice somewhere. Can someone help us on this? We would greatly appreciate it! Be well. Tracy

>From remembering when I was in Salt Lake City, I think that there is a number of the actual sealing that can be cross referenced to the person that had the sealing performed. Perhaps you can go to a local Family Center and find out. It is not secret and they like to help non-Mormons like us find this info. Hope this helps.
Several years ago while in Nashville I found an article in McNairy County Independent Newspaper, Selmer, TN, Friday, Dec. 17, 1948 - First White Settler in Western Tennessee. The subject of the article was DANIEL COX. According to the article three of Daniel's children married children of GATIS/GAYDUS FOX who died ca. 1855 in Gibson Co., TN. Over the years I have corresponded with many descendants of these families. I'm hoping some of those people are on this mailing list because I really do need to shout, days of doing handsprings are long since gone. I'VE FOUND THEM! Daniel and Darkis were in Casey Co., KY. They apparently sold their property on 24 Aug 1816 in preparation for their move to AL and then into the Hardman-McNairy Co., TN, area. A special thanks to David Hacking for contacting me about the FOX family. With our combined information, I think we're going to be able to finally document an old family legend. Jacque

Re-"Subject: Barnes Date: Monday, November 09 My name is Mitch Martindale, My grandfather was Clyde Bennett Barnes born about 1916, his father was Benjamin Barnes (no dates) his father Martin Barnes."...... Suggestion for Mr. Martindale: Since Clyde was born in 1916 his father Benjamin was probably still living then, making Benjamin's death after 1916. TN Death Certificates are usually available from somewhere around that date to the present. Depending on the knowledge of the person providing the information at Benjamin's death, his birthdate could also be given and his parent's names, etc. ..........................................................
