I've seen in an old H&R Block teaching manual a copy of one of the first American tax returns but I can't remember what year! (old age!). Does anyone have a copy? or know on the web where one is? the earliest I can find is 1935 for Teddy Roosevelt. I'm really like to find tax returns for the 1860's and 1870's. Earlier would be great! Also if anyone is searching Purdy Cemetery, would you look for William Howard and Elizabeth Jolly Lucus Howard. Family tradition says they are buried here, but several years ago I visited there and the old part was so grown up that we couldn't go in. I would appreciate any information on these two.
