Julia, Entymology has to do with the study of insects. Just what a state was doing with an Entymological Commission I don't know. LaNelle Landrum

That would have to do with the study of the origins of words - a specialty of linguistics. Entomology is the study of insects, but I dont recognize entymology. Was the person involved a zoologist, or a linguist??
Give him a fish and he can eat for one day! Give him a fishing pole and he can eat forever! http://www.m-w.com/ Looks like this may have been a case of original misspelling. Entomology is a major branch of zoology that is concerned with the study of insects.
Thank you for this very important information, it can save many hours of work. Especially since my grandfather was born in TN, was a young adult in AR and buried in MO near his oldest son. True, I went brain dead when hearing that name. Knowing it had historical meaning and confused it with another place in Illinois. That was one reason I spent so much time trying to help find it I knew my thinking about Illinois was not right and I was brain dead about history on the subject until I read your letter just now. Thanks for the reminder of these important facts. May you never attain my age and forget so many important things.<grin> Mary Hudson ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 12:43 PM Subject: Re: [TNMCNAIR] Harper's Ferry? > Harper's Ferry, WV > > > Throughout its history, Harpers Ferry has been the backdrop for remarkable > and unparalleled events. It had to be in Virginia because West Virginia wasn't created until the 1800s. Johnita [email protected] wrote: > > Can anyone tell me if Harper's Ferry is in VA or WV in 1778? > > Julia Cooper > Van Buren, AR
