War and War of 1812 service Land being opened up due to Cherokee Indian treaties Newly formed state of Tennessee 1794 All having to do with cheap/free land Plus it being one of the most beautiful places in the world to live. The vegetation in itself is vastly different that anywhere else in this country. The southern Appalachians have infinitely more species of wildlife, trees, wildflowers etc etc than anywhere else in the world...with the exception of a similar place in China. Joyce G.
