Researching in McMinn & Monroe counties in TN: Levi DEATON (abt 1783 - aft 1850) & (m. 1808 Amelia Co., VA) Elizabeth P. MITCHELL (abt 1789 - aft 1850) Levi and Elizabeth were apparently still in Montgomery Co., VA in 1839 (Levi signed consent for his daughter Eliza P. to marry Japhanis GRAY), but were in McMinn Co. in time for the 1840 census. In 1848, Levi and two others acting as commissioners set aside a year's support to a widow and several minor heirs. By the 1850 census, they show up in Monroe Co. (with two of their children, Ellen and George) and that's the last I can find of them. Any leads or more evidence of their McMinn Co. or Monroe Co. stay would be greatly appreciated. In 1850, Levi & Elizabeth's daughter Eliza P. DEATON, along with her husband Japhanis (never spelled the same way twice!) GRAY, are in McMinn Co. with several children (a couple more are born in TN). By 1860, they are in IL. This is my line - any leads or more evidence of their McMinn Co. stay would also be greatly appreciated. Another daughter, Ellen H. DEATON, married Matthew L. McCASLIN in 1853 in McMinn Co. They moved to MO sometime between about 1856-1860. A son, George W. DEATON, was married in Monroe Co. in 1852 to Martha J. MASON. By 1860, they were in IL.
