    1. Re: [MCMINN] Gallaher
    2. Gracie, I don't have anything on James Matthew Gallaher, but I do have the following in McMinn and Roane Co. TN. Mary E. Smith b 28 July 1860 m M.H. Sellers on 30 Mar 1884, d 1 May 1945. Her father was Wm. Gallaher Smith, b 10 Nov 1829, m 23 Sep 1851, d 28 Jan 1904. His mother was Peggy Margaret Gallaher, b 1808, m 28 Feb 1824. Her father was George Gallaher, b 14 Mar 1762, d 12 Apr 1837. I hope this helps. 2. Gracie, Re: James Matthew Gallaher born about 1819 married to( Elmira) Almira C. Sparks born about 1822. They were married 2 Feb. 1841 In McMinn Co., Tn. Both would have been living in parent's household in 1840 census of McMinn Co. . . . The 1840 Census of McMinn Co., TN might provide some clues . . . pg. 87 - Isaac Gallaher . . . code 2101001 - 1221001 pg. 136- Thomas Gallaher . code 1200010 - 10001 Underlined male child - 15-20 yrs old. I did not see a Sparks listed in 1840 census in McMinn. The 1830 census there was no Gallaher, but there was a Sparks - pg. 196 - William Sparks . . code 10001 - 01001 underlined female - 5-10 years old - b. 1820-1825 Possibly checking land records might turn up some more information. 3. Gracie, In the McMinn Co. Book "Wills & Estate Records of McMinn Co. Tn" , there is no mention of a Gallaher. There is one record mentioning the Sparks surname , I don't know if it will help you or not but since your post states that Almira/Elmira was born in 1822 or about , I am sending the information anyway: EDGMAN, Thomas WB F 373, 14, Aug. 1860. Comm. Robert. N. McEwen, Andrew Hutsell and John Crews set apart year's support for widow and family. A suit reinstated in 1869 states: Thos. Edgman died July 14, 1860, leaving widow Nancy and children.Among the children listed is a Catherine Sparks , dec'd, who's children are Samuel J, Susan, Martha, Jane, Thomas N. James, Talitha G., and John E. Sparks, all minors of Ark. The Sparks information above is all that is listed. Hope it turns something for you. Some sank deep roots and others moved on, scattering our ancestors from coast to coast. Our purpose is to have fun, get acquainted, and swap genealogical information. The above is a list of the families which we know for sure had ties in early East Tennessee and the ones we have some information on. However, ALL surnames are welcome to attend whether your name is listed here or not! There will be a wealth of information to share. Plan on attending please! We Do Need A Head Count though as to NOT overbook the Park. (Numbers of persons coming that is what needed). We would love to have volunteers for some of the surnames on the list to act as co-hosts/co-hostesses to greet and help people with their surname, to be made to feel welcome and to help them meet researchers working on the same surnames. We want everyone to have fun, feel welcomed, and enjoy themselves. **That's What Tennessee Stands For: THE VOLUNTEER STATE ** "Where pride walks and the flag flies!"** We know that we have some college instructors attending who perhaps can be persuaded to speak about history/genealogy. We also have experts and accredited genealogist who have been researching for 30 plus years. They are ready to share their information with us. ---------------------- Attendance is FREE . . . but we will have a "donation" jar to offset the cost for using the campground, tableware, entertainment, and clean up. ---------------------- PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING AND BRING: 1. First and foremost yourselves... 2. ALL BOOKS, BIBLES, PICTURES, FAMILY SHEETS, AND INFORMATION YOU HAVE AVAILABLE... 3. A covered dish to share. (For those who are traveling some distance and for whom this is not a feasible option, you may either bring a sack lunch or a non- perishable or deli item that can be picked up at last minute locally. 4. Drinks, ice chest 5. A chair or blanket to sit on...If you are serving as a host or hostess, you will also need a small table (card table size or larger) to display your family information on. -------------------------- Last year was our first attempt to pull all these early settlers' descendants together. As far as we knew, it had never been attempted before. It was a resounding success for a first attempt, and it was agreed that it should become an annual event. This area is so very rich in history, both as an Indian frontier and as an isolated jewel of Union sympathy during the Civil War. It also served as a departure point for westward movement and new settlement. Our ancestors left us a rich heritage, which we are striving to preserve and pass on to our children and grandchildren. This rich tapestry of ideals and values is what made us a great nation and what made each of us what we are today. And it began with our earliest immigrant ancestors who came here to start a new life and a new country. COME and SHARE that heritage with us on July 13-14. We are looking forward to making many new friends!! 3. Try the many dif. spellings of Daughtery. so far I've found Doughtrey, Doughtry, Daughertery, Daughtertry, Daughtrey, Daughtry, or could be others. That's one name I was never sure how they spelled it because almost all varied by a letter or 2 and that was even those that were related. 3. We have a King Daughtrey in our line. He's an off branch of the family but if anyone has anything, we'd be interested. That would be his son probably. Since he moved to McMinn from Washington Co, it is possible there might be something there. I would imagine he had already given all of his important possessions away and sold his land (and this before anyone ever advised him on inheritance taxes!!) Janet
