Researching the S. P. C. McFall(s) Sr., family in McMinn from 1870 to 1900 and their descendants to 1920. S. P. C. McFall Jr., (born 1870) married Harriett Rue (b. 1871) in McMinn in 1896. Harriett Rue had a sister named Eliza born abt 1864. She may have had a brother, John Y. (born 1863) and another sister Catherine (born 1862). The Rue's mother's maiden name was probably Griffin. All of these people are from McMinn County in a time frame of 1870 to 1900. My mother, Nellie Grayson McFall (born 1901) was the daughter of S. P. C. Jr., and Harriett. Henry mvjw58a@aol.com
Dear List Members, the Roll Call is going great. Just keep remembering to post Roll Call in the Subject line and add a hint of what your posting is about. This is the best way to assure that your posting will be read. Don't forget the dates and if you are on a State list, don't forget the counties. Also, if you just click on Reply, don't forget to delete the message from the last person along with the tag lines. I appreciate each of you and how smoothly our Roll Call is going. Would like to contact any researcher of Thomas Lesly (1760-1839)/ Nancy (Harris) Lesly who moved to McMinn County, TN in 1818/1819 from the Pendleton District (Old 96) SC. Tom was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and fought at the battle of the Cowpens - he fought under Gen Andrew Pickens for 2 years, 7 months and was present when the brother, Captain Joseph Pickens was mortally wounded at the Seige of 96 - their families were neighbors in the Abbeville District, SC - Tom later moved into the Pendleton District. Tom and Nancy came to TN with 4 adult children - James, Samuel, Thomas III, and Mary Ann. Some of the other 11 children stayed behind in SC when the rest migrated to TN. Many of the Leslie's were born in Jalapa - not sure what that would be today or even if it still exists. I am trying to find where Thomas is buried - I think it is Sink Presbyterian Cemetary where some of his children are buried (James, Thomas III), I have not been able to find the grave site. He is entitled to a government marker for his service in the american revolution - not too many of those in McMinn County. Tom was friends with Magness Tullock, who witnessed his pension application in August 1832. They apparently were friends from the Abbeville days. David Leslie Garland, TX

Hello,I'm wondering how I might find info on past sheriff's of McMinn co.I've been told that my gr-grandfather Roy(?) Richardson was a sheriff at one time, and that his wife,Nannie(Nancy) Lee Alton, cooked for the prisoners. This was probably ca.1920-1935.Anyone know of a Richardson who was a sheriff? Karen.
Dear List Members, The First Quarterly Report for 2002 is going to be just a little different than the one I usually send to the Mailing Lists I take care of. I tore my Rotator Cuff in November of last year and I find that I cannot spend long hours typing on the computer during the healing process, therefore I am going to send out one message to all of my lists and skip posting the membership numbers this time. I promise to get back to our normal reporting next quarter. Typing over 200 messages is just more than this shoulder and arm can take. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. If you do notice that one of our members has a virus, please do not post their name and e-mail address across the list. Let me know and I will take care of the problem. Most likely the member already knows and is in a major state of stress. Receiving messages of each of us will only cause his or her stress level to rise. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any Rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is.
