Looking for parents or relatives of Alexander Casteel (abt 1800-1862). Alexander's wife was Susannah Sherrill, dau of Alexander Sherrill, who lived in Warren Co TN at about the time Alexander and Susannah would have been married. In 1853, Hiram James Brown married Elizabeth Jane Casteel, the dau of Alexander and Susannah Casteel. They were anecdotally said to have subsequently lived in Winchester (Franklin Co) Tennessee before moving to Illinois. Can anyone provide connections between this family and Winchester TN? Browns in either McMinn or Franklin? Hiram's father was Benjamin Brown (b. 1807 TN; d. 1881 IL). We'd also like to know his ancestry, but that's another project. Jim Patrick

My ancestors Samuel Harvey Richesin and Sarah Buttram lived in McMinn County after they married on 9 OCT 1866. Samuel was the son of Jesse Richesin and Dolly Robertson of Monroe County and Sarah was the daughter of Heil Buttram and Mary Hurt of McMinn County. Before his marriage Samuel Richesin and his parents lived in an area of Monroe County which was very near the McMinn and Roane County lines. His father owned some property in McMinn County too. Jane Bilderback, the widow of Martin Bilderback, married Samuel's father Jesse Richesin after Jesse's wife died in the early 1860's. After Jesse's death in 1872 she sold her share of his land to some of his heirs. She was living in McMinn County at the time of the 1880 census as Jane Richardson age 66. With her was her sister Nancy Tolit age 71. What was Jane Bilderback Richardson's maiden name? Who were her parents? Who is the James Richardson who had a wife named Harriet and whose will was in the 1825 McMinn County records? Barbara Richardson Cantrell

Hi everyone! I have a real brick wall here...I am having the hardest time finding anything on the parents of my g-g-grandfather HARDY P. MOSS. He was married on May 10, 1857 to Adaline Rutherford (Reatherford?) in McMinn County, and later moved to Hardeman County. There is some speculation among family members that his parents were ELI MOSS and DICEY BROCK, and they were perhaps from South or North Carolina. I really know absolutely nothing about Eli and Dicey, and hope to make a concrete connection to Hardy. If it helps, here are some things I know about Hardy P. Moss: HARDY P. MOSS/ADALINE RUTHERFORD married May 10, 1857 in McMinn County moved to Hardeman County around 1870/1880? both buried in Middleburg Cemetery in Bolivar, TN (Hardeman County) had 8 children: John B. Robert Mary Huldie (short for Mahulda?) William B. JAMES FELIX (my great-grandfather) married MARY ELIZA GOFF (Gough) Dolly Sam Hardy P. Moss was part of the 7th Regiment Mounted Infantry, company E in the Civil War (on the Union side). in the 1880 Census of Hardeman County (2nd District, household 190) Hardy P. Moss reported his age as being 45, making his birth year 1834/1835.However, in the 1870 Census, he was reported as being 32 years old...which would make him born perhaps in 1838? Adaline was reported as being 35in 1880, making her birth year 1844/1845. I have Dicey Brock Moss (spelled Dissie in the census) in the 1870 Tenn. Census P. 146 M5p3-Roll 1549 born in SC, 69 years of age, placing her birth around 1800 or so, I'd guess? She died in 1874 at the age of 73 years. The only references I have of Eli are: a listing for court, in which a coroner was paid for holding inquest over his body: April 6, 1846 in McMinn County. Eli Moss is listed in the 1830 census for McMinn County, TN: 1 male under age 5 1 male age 5-10 1 male age 30-40 (Eli) 1 female under age 5 1 female age 5-10 1 female age 10-15 1 female age 30-40 (wife) Dicey is listed in a chancery court record, case 108 SPILLMAN & GLENN v. John THOMASSON & others. Filed Oct. 30, 1850. Dicey Moss, age 50, widow of Eli Moss, is listed as a witness in the case. in the 1850 McMinn County census, Dicey Moss age 50 is living in the hosehold with : #1772 William RANDOLPH age 32, born TN, and wife Hulda (Maybe Hardy P. Moss's daughter Huldie is named after this one?) age 32 born in SC, Harriet 10, William 9, James 5, Clarissa 2, Elizabeth MOSS age 18, and Dicey Moss age 50. Next door is probably a married son of Eli and Dicey's: #1773 William MOSS age 25, Farmer, TN Elizabeth 20 James 1 I'm wondering if my Mosses have any connection to the Gilbert Moss/Hugh Moss/Ephraim Moss line from SC that I keep hearing so much about. Any info on ANY of the names I mentioned here would be WELCOME!! OK, I'm done! Sorry! It's amazing that all of this still doesn't make a real connection yet! Thank you! Ben Moss james.moss@usm.edu
Glenda, as far as I know, none of my line ever set foot in GA. I have solid info on all siblings of my grandfather except for William b 1860 and was in Roane Co. with my grandfather in 1880. I am up against the proverbial wall trying to establish a relationship between Micah H. Sellers b 1786 in NC and James Sellers b 1806 in NC. James (1806) is m GG-grandfather. James M. Sellers is my G-grandfather. He was b in 1827 in McMinn Co. He m Martha 'Patsy' Wasson in McMinn in 1847. My grandfather, Jonas L. Sellers was b in 1853 in Athens, McMinn Co. Micah was an early minister and he left a good trail of information, but James did not. Micah first appeared in McMinn Co. in 1813 and died there in 1870. He died a wealthy man and his will gives a lot of information. I know he had a brother named James as well as brothers named John, Cain and William. My grandfather and all but one brother (William) moved to AR and OK in the 1880's I would also like to establish a relationship between Patsy's father Jonas Wasson in McMinn Co. and E.E. Wasson in Rhea Co. I sure hope this info ties in with other researchers. Ed Sellers in Amarillo, TX
