    1. [MCMINN] Re: McCormack webpage
    2. I had no trouble at all accessing Sharon's websites. Actually, Sharon, I've been interested in the Elliot/Gentry connection for some time. I took a look at your McMinn Co. families and I was happy to see you show Samuel S. Gentry. I found a McMinn Co. court record for Samuel Gentry (b. 1791 SC) dated 1834 where he is mortgaging his land (Deed of Trust) for $14.50 to give to one Jesse Elliot to pay a bond. Now I figure Samuel wouldn't do this for just anyone, had to be a relative? I saw a posting by Jerry Christ and I asked him about this. His answer . . . "I have nothing for you." I descend from the younger Allen Gentry on the 1830 census there in McMinn Co. That is the brick wall on him - can't get further back. He went to Taney Co., MO in 1837. So I've looked at the other Gentry that were living there in McMinn and we think this Samuel b. 1791 SC was a brother. He m. abt 1820 to a Minerva and they had son Samuel S. Gentry b. 1825 TN who m. 22 Aug 1842 to a Charlotte Dougherty. They are on the 1850 and 1860 census of McMinn Co. Was this Charlotte's #2 marriage and she was really an Elliott? That's interesting as it would then make the court record for his father and Jesse Elliot reasonable. A second son, William Jefferson Gentry b. abt 1825 also m. #1 10 Feb 1847 to Mary Saxton and #2 Julia ___. Wm. J. died 27 Sept 1883 in McMinn Co. Charlotte "Lotty" Gentry filed for a pension based on Samuel S. Gentry's Civil War service - Co. E. 9th TN Cav. He joined 17 Feb 1865. The name Sally Frazier has come up in the Gentry family - wondered if it was the same person? Thanks for posting your family, especially the Elliotts - let me know if you need the info I have on Samuel S. Gentry family. Pamela Geisler Smith Gresham, OR

    1. [MCMINN] From List Mom - New Mailing List - The Buffalo Hunters
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, I know this list will effect only a few of you, but thought I would let you know of it beginning. The Buffalo-Hunters Mailing list was approved yesterday and now is ready to subscribe to. If you have ancestors who were Buffalo Hunters and or are interested in their history, this list will be the place to learn about the Buffalo Hunters of the Old West. I had two great uncles who were hired by the U.S. Government as Buffalo Hunters. Living in 2002 I know what they did caused starvation to a group of people, waste and the near annihilation of a species. Of this I am not proud, but what they did is a part of the history of this country and I am proud of them for doing what they thought was right at that time. To join, send only the word SUBSCRIBE to BUFFALO-HUNTERS-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM I look forward to the Buffalo-Hunters Mailing List becoming another tool for each of us to understand the world out ancestors lived in. 2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; during this time, please don't post "why am I not getting mail"....you will get your mail when the system comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Kathleen Burnett List Mom
