My cousin and I have taken on an overwhelming project and we need HELP!!! McMinn County, Tennessee Deed (and other items) Book is a veritable treasure trove of names and very, very valuable information concerning this region between 1819 and 1883. There is no copywrite on the book and we plan on having it posted or linked off several Tennessee Genealogy WEb sites. The McMinn Web page coordinator has agreed to post it for all of us. I can't emphasize how valuable a research aid this will be for anyone who is researching in southeast Tennessee. I have transcribed only 15 pages and have already seen dozens of familiar names that I recognize. My cousin has transcribed another 15 pages. WE need help in transcribing the dog-gone thing. There are 180 pages plus the index (which I'm not sure we are going to do yet). It is just a matter of not having enough time to do it. We'd like volunteers to help. We are working in Microsoft Word but you can use whichever word processing program you have and email the finished documents to me. I'll edit and burn onto a CD which I'll then forward to Mr. Sneed. We also plan on seeing that local libaries get a copy also. If we can get enough volunteers and everyone did just a few pages we could get this done and on line fairly quickly. Pleae contact me at jreece@icx.net or escc435@vol.com if you will have a few hours over the next few weeks to transcribe a few pages for this project. Joyce G. Reece, Director/Site Coordinator Etowah Senior Center

Kathleen, Thank you for the useful information... Every year when I go on vacation I try to unsubscribe from all my mailing lists and I can never remember all the ones that I belong to. And when I get back from vacation I have over a hundred email messages that have posted.. I went to the address you sent and within minutes rootsweb sent me a copy of all the ones that I belonged too. This is great. Thanks again. Dear List Members, Here it is the first of July and I am late in sending you the Second Quarterly Report. I was in Maryland and Delaware enjoying three of my children their spouses and five of my grandchildren for the 4th of July. Due to the lateness of this report I am not going to send the individual numbers of members for each of the lists I take care of. It is an all day job. If any of you really want to know how many are on your list, just e-mail me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net and ask. Be sure and let me know what list you are asking about. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. I know there are exceptions to most rules including this one. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting, something I have done or not done. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 1200 prisoners on record from the state of Tennessee and almost 800 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. As Tennessee was one of the states that was torn apart and was truley brother against brother,,I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. This is a link that was sent to me via another list. However I found it very interesting and found some persons who died there but came from Bradley County. Here are a few excerpts: http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/smith/nca4-01.htm page 15 ELIZABETH TIBBS w/o William Tibbs, born Buckingham Co., Va. Nov. 15, 1792; died Bradley Co., Tenn. A good-natured spoof on the excessive types of panegyrical obituaries which were submitted for publication appeared in the October 17, 1861 issue. It read, "A Western Obituary -Mitter Edgtur:Jem bangs we are sorry tu stait, has dezeized, departed this life last mundy. Jem was generally considered a gud feller. Thanks--that %20 is what I was missing. I had already adding "services.html," and just that didn't work. Barbara At 07:27 AM 6/21/02 -0500, you wrote: >I figured out the problem.
