I found this in the deed abstracts just posted for McMinn County. My family is the SMITH family - headed by William Smith. One of his son's Israel is giving land for a school, graveyard, church on his land. I would like to know if it can be located today as I'm looking for where William Smith might have been buried Thanks. Jackie 312 22 Apr 1853 ISRAEL C. SMITH to ELISHA BRIENT, JOHN SMITH, JOSEPH SMITH, JOHN MIDDLETON, SAMUEL WILSON and ELISHA COX, Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South; for love and affection for laws of God and His people; for a location for a public school house and contingent buildings; land on Middle Creek to include the meeting house, schoolhouse, and contingent buildings, also one tract inclosed and used as a grave yard, near the house in which the said ISRAEL C. Hi, I am looking for any information on John Alexander Arnwine (b. May 11, 1781) and his family. My husband is a gggg-grandson to his brother -- Daniel Arnwine of Grainger Co., TN. I am trying to piece the entire family together. Any information would be helpful. Thanks Yvette Ramsdell Oscoda, MI
I thought she had them. It is the same Midge that was in the Cherokee rolls, wasn't it? No, we live in Florida although both sets of grandparents, g-grandparents and my mother and father are all from there. We have so many cousins it's hard to keep up with them. In fact we're double cousins. My husband gave up at the Fisher Reunion this past July in Cleveland. Said he had to keep a scorecard to know who's who. When there in July 2002, my husband and I went to Union Grove & Coghill Cemetery in McMinn Co....both of which are family cemeteries for us. I briefly visited Antioch Cemetery outside of Benton going towards McMinn Co since my grandfather, George Thomas Fisher, was just buried there the previous year. We visited Mount Hermon in 2001 when my grandfather was very ill; we got almost all the way home and got word he had died 3 hours after I had left him. I was in upper GA at the time but no one called me at my uncle's. We also have a Mount Hermon page off of our main page and it has all the listings of all buried there so far. We hope to get to more cemeteries the next time we're up that way. I try to get to family cemeteries and others (another family cemetery being Boanerges), and take pictures of the lands, churches, cemeteries, etc as part of the history to preserve the memory of our ancestors. I have some of Boanerges, Mount Hermon, Union Grove, and Coghill. I would love to see Cumberland Shed. Do you have any good pics of it? If so I'd appreciate one. It sounds like we were close to it when we visited Boanerges. If I'd known that I'd taken time to go. Have your friend email us about the Bracketts since we have quite a few already listed. We are related to the Bracketts via my grandfather James Harrison or Harris Smith and his wife, my grandmother, Leola Hunt Smith. We have been told his name was James Harrison Knox Polk Brackett Smith. Although I think someone just added all his family surnames in there. I never got to know my grandfather very well since he lived away from my grandmother most of the time down in Florida and after she divorced after 20 years, he remarried and lived in Adkins, SC. My g-grandfather & g-grandmother (parents of my grandfather) were Wm. Smith & Missouri "Zuda/Zorri/ Zude" Polk Brackett These are the ones I sent you. This is the only William Smith that we have in our Smith tree so far. He was our G-Grandfather. He died in Polk County & is buried in Cumberland Shed Cemetery. This does not match the one you describe as having died in 1829. The counties are so close a person could have lived in one and buried in another. An example is my G-Aunt who lives just a few miles from Mount Hermon Cemetery but she's just over the border of Polk County. So when she's buried she will be buried at Mount Hermon which is in Bradley Co, and have lived in Polk. Dear List Members, I look forward to the year 2003 being a great one for our list. Because of the amount new members we have subscribing every day, I feel it is time to again post the suggested rules of the list...even us long time members need reminding once in a while. 1 I have very few rules on the lists I watch over. The main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated. Also the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me Kathleen Burnett KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 2. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. When you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. Some suggestions to make our list run smoother are: 1. If you would put information such as names, places, and dates relating to your posting, in the subject line, it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 2. Please remember to delete the taglines and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 3. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. If you do notice that one of our members has a virus, please do not post their name and e-mail address across the list. Let me know and I will take care of the problem. Most likely the member already knows and is in a major state of stress. Receiving messages of each of us will only cause his or her stress level to rise. 4. Please remember, we have members from all walks of life, all ages and all levels of education on our list. Be understanding. The very person who mis-spelled every other word in their posting could be the very one with your missing family bible in their attic. Some sites to remember: 1. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if You want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ 2. If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you want to see the archives for. From there you can search by date. 3. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. This is from another list that I'm on. The person wrote in asking what "tschims dacherde" meant. A person replied saying that "dacherde" = Daughtery so I wrote back to clarify if they meant the exact surname, and they said yes. They are not sure but are assuming that "tschims" means "Tim" or a first name not yet known. The writer wrote back giving me more information or the origin of the name Daughtery as you will see below. I found this interesting since we have some Daughterys in the family. and thought any others who might have this surname would also find it interesting. Perhaps it will also help in research somewhere down the line. If not interested, then simply delete. My post: << Are you saying dacherde is = the surname Daugherty? If so many of my relatives would be interested in this. I even have one who married into our family. Bernice Raymond >> Their reply: Yes, Dougherty, or Daugherty. It was originally O'Docartaigh, and I understand that all spellings came from that. I may have to find that film again and have another look. I have a lot of info on a lot of Dougherty, Daugherty, Doherty, names. If anyone is interested. Bernice Raymond.

Dear List Members, On Monday, December 23, I begin my Christmas Holiday week. I am spending it with my four children, their wives and husbands and my 9.5 grandchildren. It will be the first time in over 10 years I have had all my children with me for Christmas. I am thrilled to say the least. It is hard, as many of you know, when all of your children and grandchildren live thousands of miles from you. As you have already guessed, I will not be spending as much time as usual online watching over your list, but I will be back to full time on Tuesday, December 31st. I have also chosen not to have a list-sitter watch you while I am away. I really do not think you need one. I will be checking in each evening after the grandchildren and down for the day. If there is a problem which you think I need to address, send a personal message to me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. I will check those first thing each night. If off topic messages are sent or if suddenly someone calls for a Roll Call, please just let it pass. Just smile and remember what I would say and hit that delete button. I will take care of the problems for you as soon as I check in. I have the best lists on Rootsweb and the greatest members so I know you will be just fine. I wish for each of you and yours a special Holiday Season filled with love, friendship, friends and family. I thank each of you for your friendship and for your support this past year. You fill my my world. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
