    1. [MCMINN] From List Mom - Please Change the Subject Line
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, If you change your subject line to match your posting you will have a better change of getting the members reading it. Many members read or delete a message depending on the Subject line, due to the amount of lists they belong to and the lack of time to read every message. It only take a moment to change it and by doing it you might just connect with that member who holds the answer to you most difficult genealogical mystery. Kathleen Burnett

    1. [MCMINN] From List Mom - A few thoughts and reminders
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is time again for one of my information messages. First of all I want to thank each of you who go out of your way to follow the list rules. I belong to many lists in my research and truly feel you are the best list members out there. If you are enjoying this list and would like to know what other genealogical lists Rootsweb has for you, go to John Fuller's site located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html It is the best source for Genealogical mailing lists that I know of. If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list or any Rootsweb List you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in the name of the list and from there you can search by date. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ To unsubscribe from any Rootsweb list send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to XXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Naturally exchange the XXXX with the name of the list and the L with a D if you are on the Digest List. I have very few rules on the lists I take care of; the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, also Roll Calls will be called by me, with a beginning date and an ending date. The posting of virus warnings, chain letters, political announcements, current events and test messages are NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please remember that I am here, working behind the scenes. When an offending message is posted, just DELETE it. Know that I am most likely taking care of the problem personally with the person who posted the message. When you send your unhappiness to the list you just continue on the problem both for the members and for myself. If you are concerned that I have missed the message, you can send me a message at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Would you like to see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. I have shared it before but I am sure we have many new members since then. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif This is your list. I am only here to take care of it for you and to make sure it runs smoothly. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them to me. Since we could not get the links posted on the McMinn web site Joy Locke was kind enough to post the links to the volunteers at www.tngenweb.org/monroe Perhaps later on when another project or two is finished I can get an OCR and scan the originals for internet posting. 3. Transcripts of the proceedings during court cases heard in Chancery Court. These links DO NOT have the court records themselves available. What it does have is a listing of people involved in each individual case. In order to get a transcript you would need to contact McMinn Historical Society. Mr. Rex Moses is president. He may be willing to photo copy the case for you if it isn't too long. Some are many pages long and too numerous to copy. Their addresses are linked from www.tngenweb.org/monroe This is the Monroe County TN. Tennessee Genealogy Web site. Thank you to Emily Stelly, Bernice Raymond and Brenda Thomas for volunteering to do these lookups (there is 436 pages of this document so it could be lengthy). Thanks to Joy Locke for doing the 'manual labor' in posting the links on the Monroe site. Please remember that this is a cross-referenced INDEX not the court records themselves. Those are much to lengthy to post. It will give you a very good idea of the people your ancestors associated with as well as time lines. Joyce Gaston Reece

    3. Thanks to Judy White (judy@genealogysurnames.com) I am pleased to announce that a fantastic resource is now available online www.accessgenealogy.com/lyttelton.htm These are letters originating from FORT LOUDON during the period of 1756 - 1760-61 to Governor Lyttleton of South Carolina. The historical data and genealogical information to be learned from these letters is fascinating. Fort Loudon was the fort built by the British to act as a supply point for the Overhill Cherokee (of East Tennessee). Fort Loudon stood (stands) in what is now Monroe County, Tennessee. Anyone researching the Cherokee will be interested in reading these documents...if you really want to learn you will. These letters came to me courtesy of the staff of Fort Loudon State Park and are well worth the time taken to read them. Many thanks to Judy and her dedicated staff. BTW, access genealogy is a complete FREE site and available to everyone. Joyce Gaston Reece
