Announcement: A Caravan of cars from several states is assembling tomorrow 5-31-03 after 9:00 breakfast at Shoney's Highway 50 & 31 Columbia for a Historical tour of southern Maury County. This will include some of the northern area of Giles County. The tour is of the places pertinent to the family history of the following surnames: Barlar/Coffee/Chaffin/Wiley/Kerby/Johnston/Barnett/Lawhorn/White/Massey/ Time span will be about 1807:1968. Places we will visit: 1. Bear Creek Pike now Highway 412 site of the old William F. Coffee General Store. 2. Rose Hill Cemetery 3. Barlar Spring and Cave. 4. Historic McCains Cumberland Presbyterian Church & Cemetery 5. Remnants of the Old Mynders & McCains School sites 6. Looking for the lost West/Samuels Cemetery (unknown to any Historical Books and records in either County) in the Stiversville Road/Blue Branch area around the Maury/Giles County line. Help anyone! Samuel & Manerva (Samuels) West and Emma Frances Coffee are buried here among others. This is the only undocumented Cemetery in the county to my knowledge. 7. Reeces Chapel 8. Glenwood Methodist Church & Cemetery 9. Chaffin Family Cemetery 10. Wiley Hollow Branch and Road 11. Gilbreath-Morrow-Coffee Cemetery 12. Arlington Cemetery 13. Spencer Hill Church of Christ and Cemetery. 14. Screamer community (Now there's a name I'd like to know story behind) You are welcome to come granted that we will be looking for history related to the above surnames at the above mentioned places and the caravan size does not become unmanageable.
