Greetings, I am a descendant of Joseph Jackson, Sr. who apparently was living in Columbia, TN at the time of his death before 1833 (exact date of his birth/death uncertain, although one record has him immigrating from Northern Ireland in 1771). His son, Terrell J. Jackson b. in Green Co., GA is the subject of a great deal of written info as he was a Texas Republic pioneer moving there in 1840-1. I descend from Terrell J. Jackson via one of his daughters b. in Alabama in 1840 (Celeste Eugenia Jackson Griggs). Please see the following documents for more: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~caseytexas/ChappellHill/CH-Docs -Index.html My Jackson ancestry is outlined here: http://jackson.casey-genealogy.com <http://jackson.casey-genealogy.com/> I'm curious if there are any Maury Co., TN or Columbia, TN records of Joseph Jackson, Sr., whose wife was named Hettie Bird Jackson (nee Bird) or she may have been known as Easther or Heddy. They had 5 sons, Reddick, William, Harris, Terrell J. and Joseph Jr., who all (or perhaps 4 of 5) moved on to Texas after their mother's death in Pickens Co., AL in 1840. Given them time frames of their birth (1793-1815 or thereabouts) some may have been born in TN, but the child (TJ) born in 1805 was in Georgia. Records indicate Joseph Sr. died in Columbia and he perhaps is buried there (if any cemetery records show him there, I'd be most appreciative of a notification). Terrell J. Jackson was later a prominent citizen in the new Republic of Texas being a trustee/founder of Baylor University, and a prominent man in lumber and rail development in Washington Co., TX (part of Stephen F. Austin's former colony). He died in 1867 in a yellow fever epidemic, and is buried in a cemetery along with Texas Republic heroes and relatives of William Barret Travis (commander at the Alamo). Thanks for any info anyone may have on Joseph Jackson, Sr., and please see the above links for some data about him. Take care, dlc
There was a David Jackson on 1850 Maury Census with wife Leanna or Leanne. David born abt 1805 in VA. Daughter Mary J. married Joseph Whitted. Is this your family? Joseph Whitted is from my family.
Are your Whitteds by any chance connected to the Whiteheads of Pittsylvania VA? A Joseph Whitehead had a daughter Mary who married Philemon Perkins. Their daughter Sarah m. Richard Thornton in Pittsylvania and moved to Maury. I suspect Richard and Sarah are my ancestors. Ed My Whitted/Whitehead family came to Maury County from Orange County North Carolina. There wereWhiteheads in Maury from Virginia and I believe South Carolina or Georgia in the early and Mid 1800's. I don't at this time know if they are related. Have you looked at the Maury County census for 1850 and after? I have copies I can send you with the Whiteheads listed if you want to look at them. > Have you looked at the Maury County census for 1850 and after? Hi David, My Whitehead connection (if I have one) would have been much earlier. Mary Whitehead married Philemon Perkins ca 1767 and died around 1826 in Pittsylvania. > My Whitted/Whitehead family came to Maury County from Orange County > North Carolina. The Perkins family that Mary Whitehead married into were from Bedford/Goochland VA and moved to Caswell NC in the late 1700s. Caswell borders Orange on the north. I suspect that Mary Whitehead's father Joseph is the Joseph Whitehead of Bedford/Goochland whose land ended up in Campbell VA. I have just started to look at these Whiteheads so don't have much more info on them. Mary had a brother named James Whitehead. There was a Joseph Whitehead in the 1790 Chatham NC census, just to the south of Orange. Ed
