    1. [TNMAURY-L] Re: 1864 birth
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0hB.2ACI/279.1 Message Board Post: Laurel, I don't believe that Maury Co. kept birth records that early. If you know of a church affiliation for your Ramsey's, you may want to take a look at the surviving church records for the area. I haven't had much luck with this avenue within the confines of Maury Co. Since the birth you are researching occurred in 1864, I would start with the 1870 Maury Co. census. If you get lucky with that one, then I would try to locate the same family within the 1860 census. Once you have come up with a few parental candidates, you might want to check the following sources: 1. Hawkins, Fred L., Jr., Maury County, Tennessee Cemeteries with Genealogical And Historical Notes. Privately published, 1989, Columbia, TN. The index for this source shows 12 pages where Ramsey's can be located. There is one "Ramsey" cemetery noted. When requesting a lookup for this source, the more info. you can provide, the better. It is not indexed by given name, so the lookup person will need as much to go on as possible. 2. Robbins, D.P. compiler, History and Directory of Maury County Tennessee, 1807-1907. (Published under the) Auspices of the Board of Mayor And Aldermen of Columbia, 1905. Supplement and corrections published 1906. There are no Ramsey's noted within the indexes for this source. However, if you find Ramsey girl marriages that you think may connect to your particular family, it is worthwhile to search this source for those additional surnames. Note...for this source to be of help, the family, or their descendants, would have had to been present in Maury Co. around the turn of the century. Since no Ramsey's show up in the general indexes, your ancillary surnames are of particular importance. One final note...where did your Ramsey family end up putting down roots? If you can supply a local for thier migration, you may be able to find other families that left Maury Co. about the same time. Good luck in your search... Karen Carrigan [email protected]
